  • CPA vs CFO for your startup — the fastest way to think about it: P is for the past. F is for the future. A CPA closes the books on what already happened. They file your taxes, run audits, and confirm historical compliance. Backward-looking work, precisely done. A CFO decides what should happen next. They build the model for your next raise, tell the board how much runway you have, and stress-test your hiring plan against your burn rate. Forward-looking work, judgment-driven. Most VC-backed startups need both. The mistake I see most often is founders trying to solve for the CFO with their CPA firm. CPAs are trained for accuracy and compliance. That's what makes them valuable. But asking your CPA to build your fundraising model is like asking your tax preparer to negotiate your term sheet — outside their zone of genius. The good news: you don't need a full-time CFO to get access to one. Fractional CFO services run $3-10K/month vs. $200-350K+ for a full-time hire. For most startups, that's the right size. • "We'll figure out our culture as we grow." By then, it's too late. Startup culture begins forming on day one: in the behaviors, decisions, habits, and expectations that quickly become "how we do things here." Key drivers include: • Leadership behavior that sets the example • A deep understanding of customers and the market • Meaning and purpose for employees • Frequent, open communication • Recognition and celebration of wins • Discipline and accountability Countsy's outsourced HR experts have helped numerous founding teams develop employee programs that foster the kind of culture you want to create and help keep employees engaged and thriving. We're sharing a free guide on what we've seen repeatedly work:  https://lnkd.in/gQZHNCtt #StartupCulture #PeopleOps #HROutsourcing

  • AI can generate content, analyze data, and automate workflows. But it still can't own accountability. The companies seeing the biggest gains from AI aren't replacing human expertise. They're amplifying it. People still provide: • Strategic judgment • Context and business nuance • Risk assessment • Relationship management • Accountability for outcomes As businesses race to adopt AI, the real competitive advantage isn't deploying it in isolation. It's combining it with human expertise. Countsy explores the winning combo in our latest guide: https://lnkd.in/giw28522 #AIFinance #FinanceOps #StartupAccounting

  • Founders, if you're using the same accounting software as your local hair salon or mechanic, you're about to hit a wall. VC-backed startups need capabilities that support complex business scenarios and scale indefinitely.  • GAAP reporting • Multi-entity financial consolidation • Revenue recognition compliance • Investor and board-level reporting • Complex approval workflows and controls • Multi-currency operations and more... This is where an ERP like NetSuite enters the conversation. Countsy put together a practical guide to help founders understand when it's time to make the switch, what to look for, and how to avoid moving too late. • Founders, bookkeeping and accounting are not the same thing. And confusing them can jeopardize your business. Bookkeeping tells you: • What happened Accounting tells you: • Why it happened • What it means • What to do next You need bookkeeping to keep accurate records. You need accounting to make better decisions. Many startups think they need one or the other. The reality is that a growing company needs both. Countsy has helped thousands of startups scale, and we put our experience into this practical guide that explains the differences between accounting and bookkeeping, when each matters, and how they work together to support growth. • Your startup's bookkeeping can either scale you or fail you. Messy books don't just impact taxes; they affect: • Investor readiness • Cash flow visibility • Forecasting accuracy • Hiring decisions • Fundraising confidence Good startup bookkeeping is less about recording history and more about building operational clarity. As a multi-year NetSuite BPO Partner of the Year, Countsy put together a practical guide covering what startup bookkeeping should actually include, common mistakes founders make, and how to build a finance foundation that scales. • Many founders think accounting just means outsourcing bookkeeping. But true BPO accounting provides: • Full accounting operations • Month-end close management • Financial reporting • CFO-level strategic support • Scalable finance infrastructure The goal isn’t just reducing internal workload. It’s building a finance function that can scale with the business without hiring an entire in-house department too early. As a multi-year NetSuite BPO Partner of the Year, Countsy put together a practical guide covering what BPO accounting is, how it works, and when it makes sense for growing startups. Payroll software calculates payroll. It doesn’t own the process. That distinction becomes very expensive as startups scale. BPO payroll is different because it adds: • Process ownership • Compliance oversight • Multi-state payroll management • Audit-ready controls • Ongoing issue resolution In other words, payroll isn’t just processed. It’s managed. As a multi-year NetSuite BPO Partner of the Year, Countsy put together a practical guide explaining what BPO payroll actually is, how it works, and when startups should outsource it. • AI in accounting isn’t about replacing accountants. It’s about removing the work that accountants should never have been doing in the first place. At Countsy, we’ve embraced AI with a simple standard: use it where it improves speed, accuracy, and client outcomes. That means automating high-volume workflows, strengthening human oversight, and refocusing on the strategic work founders actually need: insights, planning, and better decision-making. #AccountingAI #StartupFinance #FinanceAutomation

𝗔𝗜 𝗮𝗱𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗺𝘀 jumped from 𝟵% in 2024 to 𝟰𝟭% in 2025, and the firms leading that shift are not adding intelligence on top of existing systems, they are replacing the systems entirely. Countsy, a California-based outsourced accounting firm processing 3,500 invoices a month, once spent 300 hours on data entry alone; today 𝟳𝟴% of those invoices are processed without a single human review. A joint MIT and Stanford study puts the productivity gap in stark terms: accountants using agentic AI supported 𝟱𝟱% more clients per week, cut 𝟳.𝟱 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 off the monthly close, and logged more billable hours, but the gains flowed almost entirely to experienced staff, raising an uncomfortable question for a profession that is simultaneously cutting graduate hiring by as much as 𝟰𝟰%.
