We just became the exclusive lab partner of NYC's first dental school to open in over a century. Last month, Yeshiva University's College of Dental Medicine welcomed its first class of 150 students into a new three-year program built around how dentistry is actually practiced today. We're equipping its simulation lab and clinical facility with our scanners, computers, and Chairside software, so students work in digital-first workflows from day one. As it scales, the clinical facility will serve more than 400 patients a day. It's a $1M commitment in products and services, our largest investment in dental education to date. Most programs teach digital dentistry as an addition to the way things have always been done. Yeshiva built its program around it from scratch. A dental lab has always meant technicians hunched over a bench, painting crowns by hand. Dandy's Provo facility looks nothing like that. On The Margin Line, our co-founder Daniel Hanover took Joe Lynch inside the company's Provo, Utah lab. It is the world's first fully automated dental lab that produces nearly 100,000 crowns a month. It took two and a half years and hundreds of people to build. The engineering goal was simple to state and hard to pull off: replace human variance with a fully digital, self-calibrating system. A few things that changed once it worked: - Mills that recalibrate every day rather than weekly like most labs - Dentists co-designing with a technician in real time, at any stage of the crown - Shade applied at micron-level accuracy — what Dan calls "the Retina Display of crowns" Underneath every decision is one principle: break the trade-off between mass-market prices at craftsman-level quality.
