Session 3: Decision Support Tools for Water Quality Conservation and Restoration Complex environmental and anthropogenic pressures, including shifting land use patterns and rapid population growth, complicate regional watershed management. Effective management depends heavily on collaborative decision-making that integrates technical data with stakeholder priorities. To address these challenges, we developed two independent, GIS-based decision support tools by integrating data analytics, geospatial modeling techniques, and stakeholder engagement. The first tool is the Conservation and Restoration Screening Tool (CReST). The second tool is the Landscape Assessment of Nutrient Loading to Waterbodies (LANLoad). Together, CReST and LANLoad bridge the gap between complex data analytics and actionable stakeholder engagement, empowering decision-makers to implement targeted and defensible resource allocation strategies. What's on the agenda for FSA - Florida Stormwater Association's 2026 Fall Seminar? Here's a sneak peek into the first two sessions of the day. Session 1: Beyond a One-Time Study: Building a Living, High-Resolution Integrated 1D-2D Stormwater Model for Tallahassee’s Future Come learn about the value the City of Tallahassee has gained over the past five years from an innovative, GPU-accelerated, integrated 1D-2D TUFLOW HPC model that simulates citywide flooding at a 15-foot resolution, with more than 28 million model cells. Presenters will walk through how the model was validated during the April 2024 flood, how it was used to assess concepts for flood mitigation, and how it now powers a public-facing citywide inundation map. Just as importantly, they'll show how easily it stays current and how it was recently refreshed with the latest City and County LiDAR and as-built data from new developments, helping to increase its value as a living planning tool rather than a one-time study. Session 2: Innovation is Not Just Technology: A Holistic Approach to Water Management This presentation explores Seminole County’s strategic approach to implementing its comprehensive Holistic Water Policy and will highlight five foundational goals: enhancing water conservation, developing alternative water supplies, mitigating septic system impacts, strengthening watershed management, and advancing water utility projects and programs. Through real world examples and data driven initiatives, attendees will gain insight into how Seminole County is using innovative thinking, not just technological tools to drive meaningful improvements in water management, environmental stewardship, and community engagement.
