The Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHGP) today announces a series of updates related to its corporate standards as it continues to strengthen its governance, leadership, and institutional capacity to meet growing global demand for trusted, interoperable greenhouse gas accounting. The highlights include: 🤝 GHG Protocol and ISO - International Organization for Standardization will combine their corporate carbon accounting standards into a single, harmonized global accounting standard - a significant step toward integrating and harmonizing greenhouse gas accounting across the world. 🔍 Publication of the results of the Scope 2 standard public consultation, which received nearly 1100 responses from 56 countries, and surfaced a range of opinions on how companies should account for renewable energy purchases. 🗨️ Release of preliminary feedback from the Request for Information on the Actions and Market Instruments standard development process, indicating strong support for a “multi-statement” reporting approach. GHG Protocol's standards are the foundation of global carbon accounting. But how are they made? Our standard development and revisions process brings together businesses, practitioners, investors, academics, policymakers and other stakeholders. From the drafting of the standard development plan through the publication of the final standard, our multi-stakeholder approach ensures standards are practical, globally relevant and trusted by the organizations that rely on them to measure emissions, assess progress and support decarbonization. Take a look at the graphic below to learn more about how we develop our standards.

📊What types of data can I use to calculate scope 3 emissions? Luke Jones, Scope 3 Manager at GHG Protocol, dives into two types of inventory data used by companies: primary and secondary. 🔗Primary data are from specific activities within a company’s value chain. 📑Secondary data are estimated emissions based on published databases or government statistics. Focus on collecting primary data for activities with the highest greenhouse gas emissions or the greatest potential for reduction. This helps ensure your inventory reflects your emissions accurately, supports your goals and meets user decision-making needs. 🎥 Watch our video to learn more ➡️ Check out more answers to frequently asked questions about the Scope 3 Standard: go.ghgprotocol.org/m2VAB4
