Prove you can work with AI. Then prove you can work without it. Gartner made two hiring predictions: 1. By 2027, 75% of hiring will screen candidates for AI proficiency. 2. Through 2026, half of companies will require AI-free assessments. So the same candidate, in the same pipeline, gets asked to work with AI and without it. A lot of our customers are running a version of this. The first round runs in Chakra, our AI Interviewer. It screens for fundamentals with a whiteboard and an IDE on hand if the role calls for it, testing how deep the candidate's knowledge goes, how they communicate their decisions, and whether they're a fit. The second round is a live interview inside an ADE. Developers get the latest models and a real task, and our customers watch how they work with an agent running next to them. And that's perfect. One round tells you a candidate actually understands what they're building. The other tells you they can drive an agent effectively.

AI lowered the barrier to building, but it didn't lower the bar. The best engineers still stand out because of the decisions they make, the systems they design, and how they bring it all together. That's what Orchestrate is designed to test. August 1–2 Comment "ORCHESTRATE" below and we'll send you the link.

The best developers today don't just write code. They orchestrate agents. Here's what we shipped to help you hire for the agentic era. 1/ Evaluate the Reasoning Behind Candidates' Code with Chakra Chakra, HackerRank's AI interviewer, now opens an in-line code editor, asking candidates to solve a coding question and probing their approach with follow-up questions, so you see how they think, not just the code they produce. 2/ Plan Mode Watch how candidates think before they code. Plan Mode lets them use AI to explore a problem and shape their approach first, giving you a window into how they tackle complex problems. 3/ Smarter AI Fluency Evaluation Understand how candidates really collaborate with AI. AI Fluency evaluation now draws on IDE activity across the full assessment, not just AI chat, for a richer and more reliable read. 4/ Hundreds of New Questions and Tasks Interview candidates with new Plan-Build-Review repository tasks, where they resolve a customer-style ticket: investigate the issue, use AI to plan a fix, implement it, and explain their approach. Plus find hundreds of new project, coding, and AI Engineering questions in the HackerRank Library. 5/ New and Upgraded Integrity Signals Hire more confidently with new signals and upgraded accuracy on the ones you already rely on. Improved proctoring accuracy sharpens object, image, and screenshot detection across home, campus, and low-light setups. 6/ Get Hiring Insights with the HackerRank MCP The new HackerRank MCP lets AI tools like Claude and ChatGPT securely connect to HackerRank, so you can pull recruiting updates, pipeline summaries, and hiring insights from your own AI. Every few weeks, the same debate comes back: Should engineering interviews still be LeetCode-style? We think that fight is already over. Even the next version, interviews with an AI chat inside an IDE, is starting to feel dated. That is not how engineers work anymore. They are not just writing code with a chatbot next to them. They are working in agentic environments where the AI agent is part of the workflow. So we are rebuilding the interview around that. Real code repos. With actual tasks. In the same environment engineers work in today.
