Behind the Build 🏗️ Construction is making steady progress at Amtrak's Penn Coach Yard, where a new 110,000-square-foot heavy maintenance facility is taking shape. Our team has successfully installed 166 precast concrete panels, marking a major milestone in framing the facility. Structural steel erection is now underway and will continue through September as the project moves closer to completion.

Innovation in action: then and now! 🚧 In 1977, Herzog revolutionized rail operations with our first patented CarTopper - an innovative solution that made crosstie handling safer and more efficient. Today, our CarTopper technology is more advanced than ever. It has the ability to self-mount in under 10 minutes, move seamlessly between cars of different heights, and lower itself to safely travel under bridges or low-hanging obstacles. From our earliest inventions to today’s advanced engineering, we’re proud to keep raising the bar for rail operations across North America.

Herzog reposted this
Today, the OC Streetcar team had the opportunity to participate in R-Factor training led by Mike Montgomery . Our participants represented a wide range of experience—from team members who have been with Herzog for just one month to those with many years of service. Regardless of tenure, the message was the same: our culture is built on shared values and personal accountability. R-Factor is a cornerstone of the Herzog culture, reinforcing the behaviors and mindset that define who we are. It aligns with our core values of Safety Without Compromise, Power of the Team, Passion for the Customer, and Pursuit of Excellence. As we continue preparing for OC Streetcar revenue service, investing in our people and strengthening our culture is just as important as achieving operational readiness. Thank you, Mike Montgomery, for an engaging session and for helping reinforce the principles that make Herzog successful.

Building a bridge from the classroom to the field. We recently traveled with State Technical College of Missouri instructors Cole Schaeffer and Courtney Schaeffer to the Indigo Basin solar project in Reno, NV, giving them a firsthand look at how Herzog gets it done! The visit was a great opportunity to connect State Tech’s programs to the work we do in the field and have meaningful conversations about what employers are looking for in the next generation of our workforce. State Tech graduates have already made a strong impact across Herzog, and we’re excited to continue building this partnership through Lunch & Learns, Career Day and more. Thanks to Cole and Courtney for joining us, we’re looking forward to what’s ahead!

Teamwork is at the heart of everything we do at Herzog. Track Supervisor Fernando Mercado Jr. leads by example, showing up every day with a team-first mindset, ready to tackle new challenges and support those around him. His willingness to step up, ask for help, and encourage others to do the same is what makes our team stronger. Thank you, Fernando, for living our values and inspiring us all to invest in each other’s success.

Last week, we welcomed teachers from across the St. Joseph area for the annual St. Joseph (Mo.) Chamber of Commerce teacher externship! This hands-on experience gave educators a behind-the-scenes look at the many facets of Herzog, from our cutting-edge rail operations to our innovative asphalt plant. We’re grateful for our passionate presenters and the dedicated teachers' commitment to connecting classroom learning with real-world careers. Thank you for inspiring the next generation!
