Led by Charge Nurse Tara Inch, the team donated 100 backpacks, 100 binders, 100 pencils, 72 notebooks, 150 highlighters, art supplies, hand sanitizer and many other classroom essentials to help students start the school year prepared and confident. This week, Dr. Courtney Martin, obstetrician-gynecologist at Hoag, joined Rising Tides, a program that uses surfing, mentorship and community to help young women build confidence, resilience and a strong sense of self. Through meaningful conversations and encouragement, Dr. Martin connected with participants, reinforcing the importance of caring for both physical and emotional well-being as they navigate adolescence and pursue their goals. Championship Tour surfer Alyssa Spencer also spent time with the group, signing autographs and sharing her own journey of perseverance and dedication. Hoag Sports Medicine Physician Dr. Jeremiah Ray also joined the event, spending time with participants in the boys' Rising Tides program and supporting the organization's mission to help young people build confidence, character and resilience through surfing and mentorship.
