Working closely with the architect and our skilled trade partners, we're proud to support a design inspired by traditional colonial architecture, incorporating warm natural plaster finishes and timeless architectural elements that reflect the client's culture and design intent. It's always rewarding to see craftsmanship, collaboration, and thoughtful planning come together to create spaces with purpose and character. #ThrowbackThursday to one of Howard CDM’s past restaurant construction projects, Porto's Bakery & Cafe in West Covina, California. 🥐☕ Howard CDM completed the ground-up construction of Porto’s highly anticipated fifth location, delivering a new 21,943 SF two-story bakery and café designed to support both operational functionality and the welcoming customer experience Porto’s is known for throughout Southern California. The project scope included demolition of the existing building and construction of a new facility featuring indoor and outdoor dining, a dedicated patio coffee bar, expanded bakery operations space, and additional second-floor seating. We’re proud to have partnered with Porto’s Café & Bakery and PRAT Inc. Architecture to help bring another iconic community destination to life. Howard CDM is proud to have delivered the full build-out for Mendocino Farms Highland Park, bringing the brand’s signature blend of chef-driven comfort food and genuine hospitality to the heart of Los Angeles. Designed by NORR for Mendocino Farms, the space reflects a thoughtful balance of function and experience. Clean lines, warm materials, and intentional lighting create an inviting environment that supports both quick visits and longer, more relaxed gatherings. Our team executed a complete interior build-out, including a full commercial kitchen and upgraded electrical and lighting systems. The layout was carefully designed to maximize efficiency while maintaining a strong visual and physical connection between the kitchen and dining areas. Since 1972, Howard CDM has focused on building spaces that not only serve our clients, but also contribute to a more thoughtful and responsible built environment. Across select projects, we have incorporated sustainable strategies that reflect both innovation and long term impact. Our experience includes delivering multiple LEED Gold projects, demonstrating our ability to meet high performance building standards when sustainability is a key project goal. We have also embraced adaptive reuse and building repurposing, transforming existing structures into revitalized spaces that reduce material waste and preserve the character of their communities. In addition, our teams have implemented creative solutions such as repurposed shipping containers, integrated greenery, and living foliage to bring natural elements into the built environment in meaningful ways. These approaches allow us to balance functionality, design, and environmental consideration. From early planning through construction, we work closely with our clients to identify opportunities for efficiency, value engineering, and responsible resource use when it aligns with their vision and project needs. Designed by SPACECRAFT, this space reflects Ubuntu’s philosophy of togetherness, sustainability, and warm hospitality. Originally founded in #LongBeach, Ubuntu continues its tradition of thoughtfully prepared, locally inspired cuisine brought to life in a setting that honors both community and place. At Howard CDM, our focus was delivering a space that not only functions seamlessly, but feels intentional, inviting, and timeless. By bringing a fresh ambiance to #SanJuanCapistrano, we've created an environment where guests can gather, dine, and connect. Located at the center of River Street Marketplace, Ubuntu offers a dynamic yet intimate setting where visitors can enjoy seasonal, organic dishes while taking in the energy of the surrounding market and Southern California atmosphere.
