Every mission needs the right engine. Meet Electra, Impulse's first electric thruster and the newest addition to our growing propulsion family. Designed, built, and tested in-house, Electra expands what's possible with Mira today while laying the foundation for future hybrid and fully electric spacecraft. Whatever the mission, Impulse is building the propulsion systems to power it. Read more. Link in the comments. ⬇️

“I've been a rocket scientist since I was a kid. I just didn't know it." — Tom Mueller Tom grew up in a timber town in northern Idaho, a place far removed from launch pads and propulsion labs. He fixed trucks, rode dirt bikes, and was exceptional at math. When his teacher noticed, he sat Tom down and sent him on his path to engineering. That day changed everything. Not just for Tom, but for the future of aerospace and now every member of our team at Impulse who gets to build what comes next. Tom talks rockets, race cars and the future of space with Trevor Smith 🚀Watch for more. https://lnkd.in/eQtJbhM3

"Under Lane 1, Impulse Space will contract with the Space Force to provide end-to-end service, procuring a launch vehicle and then stacking the Helios stage and designated satellite into the payload fairing of the rocket." That's what Helios was built for: rapid, cost-effective delivery to high-energy orbits. The Space Force added Impulse to its National Security Space Launch Lane 1 bidder pool this week, opening the door to compete for a share of $5.6 billion in contracts through 2029. First flight targeted for 2027. Full story via Ars Technica https://lnkd.in/gNsJYPk5

We hosted the SES Satellites Board at our Redondo Beach facility, sharing the latest progress on Helios and celebrating our partnership. Through our multi-launch agreement, Helios will transport SES satellites from LEO directly to GEO and MEO in a matter of hours. What used to require a multi-month electric propulsion transfer, or an expensive dedicated heavy-lift launch, Helios will make a same-day operation. Good to spend time with the team driving that shift forward with us. 🛰️

The Deneb engine continues to progress through its development campaign at our Mojave, CA test facility. Designed by Tom Mueller, Deneb is the 15,000lbf ox-rich staged combustion engine at the center of the Helios kick stage. Our development team is pushing Deneb toward flight readiness with high-cadence testing and rapid hardware iteration. Hardware rich development is at the heart of our company culture.
