$299 billion in municipal bonds priced in the first half of 2026, up 5.2% from a year ago, according to The Bond Buyer. Muni shops expect this to become a third straight record year, with issuance tracking toward roughly $600 billion. For fixed income desks, record supply is an operational story as much as a market one. More new issues means more allocation decisions, more reinvestment work, and more line items to manage across accounts, and it lands hardest on muni SMA books.
