When does the new reciprocal deposit law take effect? The three little words you’ve been waiting to hear: 𝗜𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝘀. The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act lets banks treat more of their reciprocal deposits as nonbrokered and that change took effect the day it was enacted: July 11, 2026. As was the case with the original 2018 law, you don’t need to wait for the FDIC's regulations and Call Report instructions to change; 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆. Under long-established principles of federal law, a statute takes effect upon enactment unless Congress provides otherwise. In this case, Congress did not include a delayed effective date or a contingency for FDIC rulemaking. Some provisions of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act do require rulemaking or other implementation measures before they become operational. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁.
