Every year JRI employees have the opportunity to participate in an employee survey. While we await feedback from this year’s survey, we’re reflecting on what our employees shared in 2025.

"There are places you work and then there are places that restore you. Justice Resource Institute is not just where I have a job. It is the first place in my professional life where I feel seen as a human being instead of a line item. I have a supervisor who leads with integrity, not ego. A team that shows up for each other instead of competing. An organization that makes ethical decisions even when they’re inconvenient. That matters. The work is heavy. The stories are real. The patients are not statistics — they are people with names, histories, and futures. And here, they are treated that way. For the first time, I don’t feel like I have to perform to survive. I don’t feel like I’m acting the role of who I’m “supposed” to be. I can bring my whole self into the room — my empathy, my lived experience, my intensity, my honesty — and it’s not too much. It’s valued. That is rare. In a field where burnout is common and people are often reduced to productivity metrics, this place remembers why we do this work in the first place. Healing is relational. We're proud to share that Suzanne Davies (pictured third from the left), Senior Staff Attorney at the Health Law Institute, spoke at the National LGBTQ+ Bar Association's Lavender Law Conference in Chicago. As part of a brand-new caucus, Suzanne joined legal leaders from across the country to examine how HIV is an intersectional issue that shapes, and is shaped by, broader struggles for justice, equity, and the rights of LGBTQ+ communities. Lavender Law brings together nearly 2,500 attorneys, judges, law students, and legal professionals each year, making it one of the nation's premier gatherings focused on LGBTQ+ legal advocacy. We're honored to see Suzanne contribute their expertise to this important conversation.

Thank you to Sen. Michael O. Moore, Rep. Kate Donaghue, and Rep. Hannah Kane for visiting the Butler Center to learn more about our work with youth committed to the Massachusetts Department of Youth Services. During their visit, they met with our team, toured the program, and learned how specialized mental health treatment, education, and evidence-based interventions help young people address the behaviors that led to their offenses while preparing for successful reintegration into their communities. Get to Know the Team: Dr. Kerry-Ann Williams, Chief Medical Officer and Medical Director at JRI Dr. Williams is a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and Part-time Lecturer in Psychiatry, specializing in the psychopharmacological treatment of complex traumatic stress. As Chief Medical Officer at JRI, Dr. Williams provides expert consultation to teams and divisions, as well as supporting and leading select agency-wide initiatives. She started her career at JRI providing direct psychiatric services to several JRI programs and developed a special interest in the intersection of neurobiological systems and psychological systems in youth and adults who have experienced traumatic stress. Her work involves direct collaboration with the JRI Research team on publications and projects - such as piloting Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBTi) in youth congregate care settings.
