One month later, we're still feeling the excitement from bringing Krystal to Union, New Jersey. 🎉 The opening of our first Northeast location was about more than introducing Krystal to a new community. It was about creating jobs, building connections and bringing people together alongside our incredible brand partner, Victor Cruz. In a recent interview with Hip Hop Emerge, Victor shares why bringing Krystal to his home state is a legacy play, what leadership means to him and his vision for creating opportunities that make a lasting impact in the community. About us
It was on October 24, 1932, when the nation’s first Krystal restaurant opened its doors on the corner of Seventh and Cherry Streets in downtown Chattanooga, Tennessee amid the harsh financial times of the Great Depression. Its founders, Rody Davenport Jr. and J. Glenn Sherrill, believed that despite the severe economic upheaval of the times, people would patronize a restaurant that was kept spotlessly clean, provided courteous service and offered a good meal at the lowest possible price. Proving this theory true, the restaurant’s first customer, French Jenkins, ordered six Krystals and a cup of coffee, all for the bargain price of 35 cents. Krystal is also keeping an eye to the future as the company invests in new restaurant designs, develops new, unique menu items and expands into new markets across the South – upholding its legacy as a Southern icon by offering that one-of-a-kind taste and the personal connection you can’t find anywhere else.

Yesterday was a special day as we celebrated the grand opening of Krystal's first New Jersey restaurant in Union. 🎉🍔 For our team, this opening represents so much more than a new restaurant. It’s the culmination of months of hard work, collaboration, problem-solving, and belief in what the Krystal brand can become. I couldn’t be more proud of the entire Krystal team who helped bring this restaurant to life. Entering a brand-new market is never easy, but seeing the excitement from the community yesterday made every challenge worthwhile. This opening was also personally meaningful for me. My parents are originally from northern New Jersey, and I spent many childhood summers visiting family in the area. To now have the opportunity to help introduce a brand I care deeply about to a place that has always felt special to me is incredibly rewarding. Thank you to the Union community, local leaders, Union Township Chamber of Commerce, Township of Union Public Schools students and staff, and everyone who joined us to celebrate. And a special thank you to Victor Cruz, whose passion for his home state and commitment to community helped make this vision a reality. We’re excited to be part of the Union community and look forward to serving our new neighbors for years to come.
