🔎 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗡𝗶𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗦𝗰𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗣𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀 | 𝗪𝗣𝟱 Turning field data into practical decisions requires strong models, digital infrastructure and reliable interpretation. In #NitroScope, Work Package 5: Optimization and implementation of N-models for mitigation strategies is led by the Leibniz Institute for Horticultural Sciences (IGZ) [Leibniz Inst. of Vegetable and Ornamental Crops] and focuses on developing the project’s modelling backbone. WP5 builds a cloud-based architecture and a calibrated ensemble of process-based and machine-learning models that integrate field data, sensor outputs and remote sensing information. These models will support site-specific nitrogen management, variable rate fertilisation and the evaluation of mitigation strategies across different agricultural conditions. A key output of WP5 is the development of two farm-management add-ons, designed to translate complex simulations into actionable advice for more efficient and sustainable nitrogen management. Through WP5, NitroScope strengthens its capacity to connect data, modelling and decision support, helping farmers and stakeholders make better-informed choices for reducing nitrogen losses and improving Nitrogen Use Efficiency. 👉 Learn more about NitroScope work packages: https://lnkd.in/dr2C8nGz #WorkPackages #IGZ #HorizonEurope #EUResearch #MissionSoil #NitrogenManagement #NitrogenUseEfficiency #NModels #MachineLearning #RemoteSensing #DecisionSupport #SustainableAgriculture

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗡𝗶𝘁𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗢𝘅𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗘𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿? Nitrogen does not only move through soil and water. Part of it can also be released into the atmosphere. When nitrogen from fertilisers is not fully used by plants, soil processes can lead to the release of nitrous oxide, also known as N₂O. In agriculture, N₂O emissions matter because nitrous oxide is a powerful greenhouse gas. These emissions are closely linked to nitrogen management, soil conditions and the efficiency of fertiliser use. 𝘞𝘩𝘺 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘰𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁? Because reducing N₂O emissions starts with understanding where nitrogen losses occur and how they can be better managed. At #NitroScope, we work to monitor and quantify nitrogen fluxes across Europe, including N₂O emissions from agricultural soils. Through field measurements, sensing technologies and modelling, the project supports improved Nitrogen Use Efficiency and more sustainable nutrient management. Reducing nitrous oxide emissions is an important step toward climate-smart agriculture and more resilient farming systems. 🔎 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗡𝗶𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗦𝗰𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗣𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀 | 𝗪𝗣𝟰 Scientific solutions can only create impact when they are understood, accepted and used in practice. In #NitroScope, Work Package 4: Improving adoption of N-management and conservation strategies is led by the Institute for Development and Innovation (IRI) and focuses on the people, practices and decisions behind sustainable nitrogen management. WP4 maps and engages key stakeholders, including farmers, land managers and decision-makers, to better understand the needs, challenges and conditions that influence the adoption of improved nitrogen management strategies. This Work Package also evaluates the agronomic, socio-economic and environmental performance of the strategies tested within NitroScope, helping identify what works in real farming contexts. By identifying barriers and enablers of adoption and developing best practices for communication and training, WP4 helps ensure that NitroScope’s solutions are not only scientifically strong, but also practical and useful in the real world. 👉 Learn more about NitroScope work packages: https://lnkd.in/dr2C8nGz Institut za razvoj i inovacije – IRI | European Research Executive Agency (REA) | EU Science, Research and Innovation #WorkPackages #IRI #HorizonEurope #EUResearch #MissionSoil #NitrogenManagement #SustainableAgriculture #StakeholderEngagement #Farmers #LandManagement #ConservationStrategies
