PSR attorneys Robert Glassman and Joe O'Hanlon recently secured more than $28 million in two settlements that held California public entities accountable for dangerous tree failures. In the first case, the firm recovered $14,350,000 on behalf of the parents and estate of a child killed when a large oak branch collapsed at King Gillette Ranch, a Calabasas park owned by the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority. The tragedy occurred during a children's summer day camp on July 9, 2025. Evidence showed the MRCA had hired a tree contractor days earlier to fix a known branch-failure issue but the work was left unfinished, the area wasn't secured, and campers remained under the hazardous tree. In the second case, the firm recovered $14,000,000 for a client who suffered catastrophic, life-altering injuries when a publicly maintained tree failed at a City of Berkeley facility on August 1, 2024. Prior to trial, the City admitted fault, acknowledging the tree was in a dangerous condition when it failed. Two different cases. One common thread: public agencies that knew about a tree hazard and failed to act. Read the full article at our link in bio.
