  • Yesterday we talked about the importance of understanding the business before recommending software. The next step is creating a plan. One of the biggest mistakes companies make is thinking an ERP implementation begins when the software is installed. It doesn't. It begins with understanding your processes, setting priorities, preparing your team, and creating realistic expectations. We've found that the smoothest implementations aren't necessarily the fastest. They're the ones where everyone understands the plan before the project begins. Good planning doesn't eliminate every challenge, but it helps prevent surprises and keeps the project moving forward. ERP is more than a software project. It's a business project. #Manufacturing #Distribution #BusinessProcess #ERP #ChangeManagement

  • Most business owners can tell you what's frustrating. Orders take too long. Inventory isn't always accurate. Purchasing is constantly expediting. Employees have developed workarounds that have become "the way we do things." But knowing what is frustrating isn't the same as knowing why. Before we ever recommend software, we spend time understanding how the business actually operates. We walk the warehouse. We watch how orders flow from sales to shipping. We ask questions. We look for duplicate effort, bottlenecks, and manual processes. That's the business analysis. Sometimes the biggest opportunity isn't replacing software. It's uncovering processes that have quietly become inefficient as the business has grown. The best ERP projects don't start with software. They start with understanding the business.

  • Most distributors don't outgrow QuickBooks overnight. It happens one spreadsheet, one manual process, and one inventory mistake at a time. If you're tracking inventory in multiple places, re-entering orders, or waiting until month-end to know where the business stands, it may not be an accounting problem anymore. It may be time for a system built for distribution. #Distribution #WholesaleDistribution #InventoryManagement #ERP #Acumatica

  • Some business conversations happen in boardrooms. Others happen in tutus. A couple of weeks ago, Jeff Ballway, Thomas J. O’Neill, and Chris Stocker represented Parallel Solutions at the Geauga Growth Partners Golf Outing. It was a scramble filled with good shots, good laughs, and plenty of friendly competition. Chris took home Closest to the Pin, Jeff consistently outdrove Tom by about 10 yards (something Tom was reminded of more than once 😊), and from what I hear, the team was more than happy to take advantage of Jeff's drives all day. Events like this are about more than golf. They're about building relationships, enjoying the community we're part of, and spending time with great people. Thank you to Geauga Growth Partners for another fun event. We had a great time and are already looking forward to next year. #GeaugaGrowthPartners #Networking #Community #Manufacturing #BusinessRelationships #ParallelSolutions

  • The customer shouldn't have to repeat themselves. A customer shares a special requirement with Sales. Engineering needs the information. Production needs it. Quality needs it. Customer Service needs it. When those teams are working from different systems or different versions of the same information, mistakes become much more likely. The best manufacturing operations aren't just connected on the shop floor. They're connected across the entire business. How does your team make sure important customer requirements follow the order from quote to shipment? #Manufacturing #Quality #CustomerExperience #HardwoodFlooring #ERP

  • Every board has a journey. In hardwood flooring manufacturing, a board doesn't go from raw material to finished product in one step. It moves through multiple processes, and each one depends on the one before it. If material isn't where it's should be, or production doesn't have accurate information, delays ripple through the entire operation. The goal isn't just to keep production moving. It's to give every department the visibility they need to make decisions with confidence. How does your team keep production on track when priorities change? #Manufacturing #HardwoodFlooring #Production #Operations #ERP

  • In hardwood flooring manufacturing, inventory isn't just inventory. It's different species, grades, widths, thicknesses, and finishes. When employees have to walk the warehouse to verify what's actually available, they're spending time searching instead of producing. Visibility isn't just about knowing what's on the shelf. It's about making better decisions, serving customers faster, and keeping production moving. Have you ever found inventory you didn't know you had? #Manufacturing #InventoryManagement #HardwoodFlooring #SupplyChain #ERP

  • One of the easiest ways to protect your margins isn't negotiating harder with suppliers. It's making sure unexpected price changes don't slip through unnoticed. Purchase price variance happens when the price on a vendor bill doesn't match the purchase order. For manufacturers and distributors, those differences can quietly impact inventory costs and profitability if they aren't reviewed. Recent enhancements in Acumatica now allow those variances to become part of the approval workflow before a bill is released, helping the right people review exceptions while routine transactions continue moving. I put together a short article explaining what changed, why it matters, and how the approval workflow works. I'll share the link in the comments. #Acumatica #Manufacturing #Distribution #ERP #AccountsPayable

  • We hear people say they want to "get rid of spreadsheets." Most of the time, the spreadsheet isn't the problem. The problem is entering the same information over and over because systems don't communicate. That's especially true with estimating. A quote gets built in Excel, then someone manually re-enters it into the ERP system. Along the way, something changes or gets missed. Excel often becomes the workaround that keeps the business running. The goal isn't eliminating spreadsheets. It's eliminating the reason they became necessary. #Manufacturing #ERP #ManufacturingSoftware

  • Manufacturing companies often ask, "Do we need manufacturing ERP?" The better question is, how much manufacturing functionality do you actually need? Some companies only need kit assembly. Others need work orders and labor tracking. And some require advanced planning, MRP, routing, and real-time production visibility. Choosing more functionality than you need adds complexity. Choosing too little can limit growth. The goal isn't to buy the biggest system. It's to find the level of functionality that supports the way your business operates today and where it's headed tomorrow. #Manufacturing #ERP #BusinessGrowth
