The Penske Truck Leasing location in Byron Center, Michigan, received its LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certification. The building’s roof features a 216-kW DC PV system of solar panels.   This location has achieved a direct reduction in Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions. It employs 100% renewable energy sourced from solar energy that is consumed and purchased renewable energy certificates to offset any utility usage from the grid.   Among the location’s sustainability features: ·      Energy efficiency cost savings of nearly 63% ·      By cost, 38% renewable energy generation ·      No outdoor irrigation and a 42% indoor water use reduction ·      Whole-building life-cycle assessment was completed ·      Dedicated onsite storage and collection of recyclables ·      The recycling of operational waste streams that include batteries, e-waste, tires and oil   Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, LEED is a framework for identifying, implementing and measuring green building and neighborhood design, construction, operations and maintenance.
