Prison Fellowship is the nation’s largest Christian nonprofit equipping the Church to serve currently and formerly incarcerated people and their families, and to advocate for justice and human dignity. Colson was incarcerated for Watergate-related charges and could not forget those he had left behind prison walls. He launched Prison Fellowship to give prisoners the opportunity to experience the radically transforming power of Christ that he had already experienced. Second Chance Month 2026 marked 10 years since Prison Fellowship first launched a nationwide movement to champion redemption and human dignity. This April, more than 50 Justice Ambassadors, faith leaders, and advocates gathered in Washington, D.C., to amplify the call for second chances on Capitol Hill. Formerly incarcerated advocates boldly shared their stories—faith-filled journeys from the halls of prison to the halls of Congress. Together, our advocates urged lawmakers to support second chances by strengthening opportunities for people returning home, passing the Second Chance Reauthorization Act, and opening doors for men and women who dream of a better tomorrow. When barriers fall, people flourish. Families heal. Communities thrive. That’s the power of second chances.
