🚧 Shovels are in the ground! Our Board of Supervisors, County Executive Office and Department of Public Works joined regional partners yesterday to celebrate the groundbreaking of Phase I of Placer Parkway, a project decades in the making that will improve east-west travel, reduce traffic congestion, strengthen emergency access and support the region's continued growth. This milestone is the result of years of planning and strong partnerships between Placer County, the Placer County Water Agency, the United Auburn Indian Community the South Placer Regional Transportation Authority (of Placer County Transportation Planning Agency and Teichert Construction. Construction is officially underway, bringing us one step closer to a safer, better-connected transportation network for generations to come. Special thanks to our event speakers: Placer County Department of Public Works Director Derek Gade, our Board of Supervisors chair Shanti Landon, our County Executive Officer Daniel Chatigny, United Auburn Indian Community Chairman John "Will" Williams, PCWA Director Andrew Fecko - and to Congressman Kevin Kiley and Senator Roger Niello for their support and commendation at the ceremony!

Using technology to improve public services, strengthen government operations and deliver better outcomes for residents is what we are trying to do every day. This year we ranked 6th in the nation for counties of our size in the National Association of Counties and Center for Digital Government's Digital Counties Survey. We're honored - and we'll never stop pushing.

Protecting working lands is now on the national agenda. At the 2026 National Association of Counties Annual Conference, NACo adopted a resolution co-sponsored by Placer County District 2 Supervisor Shanti Landon in support of minimizing losses of agricultural land. The U.S. loses an average of 1.8 million acres of farmland each year to development. The resolution calls for expanded planning grants, stronger conservation programs like USDA's Agricultural Conservation Easement Program, smarter solar siting and incentives to keep farmland in production across generations. We're excited to welcome Amanda as our new regional forest health coordinator, where she'll help advance forest health and wildfire resilience through regional collaboration and partnership. Amanda brings more than a decade of experience in forest health, most recently serving as program director for the Santa Clara County Fire Safe Council. She has also worked with the San Mateo Resource Conservation District and Oregon State University's College of Forestry Extension, partnering with California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), local fire districts, the USDA Forest Service, Tribal communities and private landowners. Her work includes helping launch the South Bay Prescribed Burn Association and the West Santa Clara Landscape Resilience Project—a 143,375-acre CaVTP PSA. She's also passionate about building local capacity—helping contractors grow into skilled partners supporting forest health and fuels reduction projects. "My heart is in the forest resilience component of wildfire prevention and preparedness," Amanda says—a commitment that aligns perfectly with Placer County's mission to create healthier forests and safer communities. When she's not working in the woods, you'll find Amanda kayaking, canoeing or exploring the outdoors with her husband Sean and two dogs, Pancakes and Mabel. Placer County has selected longtime local government executive Sean Rabé to serve as its next assistant county executive officer, bringing nearly two decades of public-sector leadership experience across multiple California communities. Rabé will begin his new role July 13. Rabé most recently served as Auburn’s city manager, where he guided the completion of the city’s strategic plan, launched its first General Plan update in more than 30 years and led the organization through significant budget restructuring and improved community engagement. Prior to Auburn, he served six years as town manager in Loomis, where he helped advance major economic development initiatives, revitalized the downtown area and guided the Costco project through final approval. Rabé has also served as city manager for the Town of Colma and the City of Sutter Creek, bringing a combined 16 years of city management experience to his new position with Placer County. His career has focused on building effective organizations and addressing community priorities through collaborative regional leadership. “Sean has demonstrated exemplary leadership in every community served, and his depth of experience in municipal management and long-term planning will be an incredible asset to Placer County,” said County Executive Officer Daniel Chatigny. “His strong regional relationships and thoughtful approach to problem‑solving align perfectly with our priorities and our commitment to serving residents with transparency, collaboration and innovation.” Board of Supervisors Chair Shanti Landon praised the appointment, noting the importance of continued stability and leadership at the executive level. “Placer County’s growth demands regional cooperation and thinking. Sean’s proven ability to bring together jurisdictions, partners and residents makes him exactly the right person to help lead us forward,” said Landon. Rabé said he is excited to join the Placer County Executive Office team and looks forward to supporting the board’s priorities. “Serving as Auburn’s city manager has been one of the greatest honors of my career. While I am stepping into a new role, I am confident the work I do will continue to benefit Auburn residents,” said Rabé. “Joining Placer County allows me to serve our communities in a broader capacity by helping address regional challenges. I look forward to working collaboratively with our city partners to strengthen the entire county and make a lasting impact.” Before entering local government leadership, Rabé worked as a newspaper editor and general manager, contributing to his strong communication and organizational management skills. Rabé earned a Bachelor of Science in government from California State University-Sacramento and a master’s degree in public policy from California State University, Northridge. He lives in Rocklin with his wife of 19 years, their 12‑year‑old daughter and their French bulldog, who is allergic to nearly everything.

Peak fire season is here and firefighters are on high alert responding to wildland fires with suppression from both the ground and air. The goal of the CAL FIRE/Placer County Fire Department is to extinguish 95% of all fires in under 10 acres or less. Thanks to assistance from the Grass Valley Air Attack Base, that goal is achievable. Our County Executive Officer Daniel Chatigny toured the base to learn more about firefighting operations from the air in this edition of “The County Line.”
