As manufacturing technologies evolve, so should the methods used to verify them. Here at Poba Medical, we continue investing in advanced inspection technologies that improve the speed, consistency, and repeatability of dimensional verification. Measuring critical balloon features such as diameter, cone angles, working length, and transition geometry with greater precision helps strengthen process control and provides customers with greater confidence throughout development and production. Continuous investment in inspection capabilities reflects a broader commitment to manufacturing precision, robust quality systems, and raising the standard for medical balloon development. An unconventional balloon geometry and a compressed timeline required more than a standard tooling approach. Rather than wait several weeks for entirely new tooling, the Poba Medical team developed a high-temperature-resistant 3D-printed insert that could be used within an existing copper-center mold. The solution helped achieve the required geometry, meet the customer’s deadline, and opened the door to a more adaptable approach for future development programs. This is what rapid balloon development looks like in practice. Understanding the material, controlling the process, and finding a better way forward when conventional methods do not fit the application. Great reconnecting with Ketan Muni last week at Poba Medical. From early ACS extrusion and polymer support to developing the first Nylon 11 balloons to replace leaky PET materials at ACS/Guidant. Oversight of all balloon production at Guidant. Pioneer in ENT balloon applications with sinuplasty and eustachian dilation. Carotid filters utilizing laser cut Nylon 11 balloons. Ketan continues to believe that we are in the early innings of balloon development even as we reach the commodity stage within some minor clinical subsets. We appreciate the visit and the open and honest discussion around material science, process, and logic. Keep a lookout as Ketan and Ronak Muni bring a new chapter to the “bay” area medical device community. Medtronic PercuSurge, Inc. Device prototyping gives engineering teams a practical way to evaluate catheter performance before committing to later-stage development. Functional prototypes can help assess shaft behavior, component fit, transition points, material selection, assembly methods, and overall handling while identifying potential manufacturing challenges early. Each round of testing provides clearer direction for design refinement, helping teams move forward with greater confidence in both performance and manufacturability. When you say "impossible," our engineering team is just getting started. In medical device engineering, complex geometries and tight tolerances aren't roadblocks - they're the benchmark. At Poba Medical, we specialize in transforming the most challenging design concepts into high-quality, rapid-turn thermoplastic medical balloons and devices. Whether you are navigating intricate catheter development or scaling up pilot manufacturing, our team brings the precision engineering and process expertise needed to bring your device to life. Poba Medical, where impossible, is just the beginning. #Cathetermanufacturing #medicalballoons #medicaldevice

Integrating electrodes onto a balloon catheter introduces a completely different set of engineering challenges than building the balloon itself. The balloon still needs to inflate predictably, maintain its intended geometry, and navigate complex anatomy. At the same time, conductive elements must remain securely integrated throughout manufacturing, catheter assembly, and repeated inflation cycles without compromising device performance. Balancing mechanical performance with electrical integration requires careful consideration of materials, bonding methods, balloon geometry, and manufacturing processes from the earliest stages of development. As minimally invasive devices continue to become more sophisticated, successful programs increasingly depend on bringing these engineering disciplines together rather than treating them as separate design problems. Good internships give students a chance to see what the work is really like. Great internships give them the opportunity to be part of it. This summer, Connor, Stormy, Emily and Garret have been doing exactly that at Poba Medical. They've asked thoughtful questions, taken on new challenges, and worked alongside our engineering team on projects that support the development of medical devices. Watching students grow in confidence over the course of a summer is one of the most rewarding parts of our internship program. It's also why we've been fortunate to see many former interns return as full-time members of the Poba team. Thank you, Connor, Stormy, Garret and Emily for everything you've contributed this summer. We appreciate the energy and perspective you brought to the team, and we're looking forward to seeing what comes next!

Many balloon development projects start by asking what diameter and pressure the balloon needs to achieve. Compliance usually becomes part of the conversation later. In practice, compliance influences many of the decisions that follow. A balloon that grows only a few percent between nominal pressure and rated burst pressure behaves very differently than one that grows 50% or more. That affects stent deployment, vessel apposition, drug transfer, occlusion performance, and whether the balloon conforms to anatomy or reshapes it. Selecting the right compliance category early often narrows the material options, simplifies development, and reduces redesigns later in the program. We broke down how noncompliant, semi-compliant, and compliant balloons behave, where each is typically used, and how engineers approach material selection. Balloon cuff performance is defined by more than diameter. Compliance, expansion profile, material selection, and manufacturing method all influence how a device performs in the clinical environment. Poba Medical's balloon cuffs give engineers the flexibility to optimize these variables with: - Internal diameters from 12–30 mm and balloon expansion up to 60 mm - Adjustable cuff working lengths from 5–125 mm - Variable compliance for internal and external growth - Seamless cuff construction without seam welding - Controlled circumferential compliance from 25A–100A durometers - Material options including Pebax®, Pellethane®, NeuSoft®, and ReZathane® Giving engineers greater design flexibility to develop balloon-based devices with confidence.
