What does it take to keep more than 600 megawatts of generation capacity running reliably? Earlier this year, PGE’s crews at our Port Westward I and II generation plants completed a major 40,000-hour overhaul. These overhauls provide a rare opportunity to see inside some of the largest and most complex equipment at our facilities. It's careful, highly skilled work that helps ensure reliable service for our customers.

When communities decide to bring in new businesses—whether a data center, manufacturer or local employer—we take our responsibility seriously to serve them safely and reliably, just as we serve every household and business across our region. And we’re building a modern regulatory framework that supports responsible growth and ensures that data centers pay their share of the costs associated with their large energy use.

Grid modernization is about building a more connected, responsive network. At PGE, we are upgrading the communication network that connects our local infrastructure to our integrated operations center. By enabling real-time data sharing, we can diagnose neighborhood outages instantly. This helps minimize the need to dispatch field crews for visual inspections and allows our teams to resolve some issues remotely in minutes. We have successfully upgraded half of our service area, with the remainder rolling out over the next few years. It’s a key step in delivering safe, reliable power while maintaining cost efficiency.

How do we deliver more power without building more transmission lines? The answer is Dynamic Line Rating (DLR). PGE is installing a growing network of sensors on transmission lines across our service area that give grid operators real-time visibility into line conditions such as temperature, power flow, and line sag, which helps operators safely determine how much power a line can carry in the moment. The result: ⚡ More efficient use of existing infrastructure ⚡ The ability to move an average of 10–20% more power through transmission lines, depending on conditions ⚡ Enhanced grid reliability and operational awareness ⚡ Lower costs by maximizing the assets already in place These investments are helping us build a smarter, more resilient grid while continuing to provide safe, reliable and affordable energy for our customers.

In progress: Reducing wildfire risk along Mount Hood Corridor The Mount Hood Undergrounding Project is a two-year effort to move approximately seven miles of overhead power lines underground along Highway 26 near Government Camp. This project helps safeguard local communities, businesses, and one of Oregon’s most treasured landscapes, by reducing the risk of wildfire ignition and strengthening year-round power reliability.
