Radicle Science was founded on a mission to transform wellness products into proven, precision health solutions—accessible to all, without gatekeepers. Consumers want to take greater ownership of their health, but too often struggle to identify which supplements are safe, effective, and right for them. The wellness industry has an obligation to generate credible evidence—and advances in large-scale, rapid, representative clinical trials now make that possible. Better evidence allows companies to develop products proven to work for specific populations. It helps consumers make informed choices and gives healthcare providers the confidence to have meaningful conversations about wellness products and integrate them into care. In a new position paper, the American College of Physicians calls for premarket approval and mandatory product listing to address adulteration, fraudulent marketing, and unlawful claims. These are serious concerns—but they are already prohibited under existing laws. What is needed is stronger enforcement, alongside substantially more high-quality clinical evidence to ensure claims are substantiated and compliant. A sweeping premarket approval model risks stifling innovation and moving wellness closer to a pharmaceutical system in which development is slow, costly, and centered on treating disease rather than advancing health and healthspan. At Radicle Science, we believe the answer is proof: greater transparency, rigorous clinical research, and precision insights that help identify what works, for whom, and under what conditions. Consumers deserve access to credible research on the products they take. Manufacturers must generate the evidence needed to earn the trust of consumers, healthcare providers, and regulators. The future is proven, precision wellness—accessible for all. In September 2024, the FDA released its final guidance on decentralized clinical trials. It cemented DCTs as a fully recognized, regulator-endorsed methodology with documented best practices. The timeline matters: 2023 — FDA issues draft guidance on DCTs 2024 — FDA releases final guidance 2025 — ICH E6(R3), the global gold standard for Good Clinical Practice, is revised to explicitly accommodate decentralized trial designs for the first time in its history. This is the direction the evidence standard moved. And the companies investing in clinical proof now are not ahead of their time. For more than 40 years, Loren Israelsen has been the champion shaping the global responsible supplement industry. Crafting the Dietary Supplement Health & Education Act (DSHEA). Supporting the establishment of organizations from AHPA to ABC. Launching the United Natural Products Alliance (UNPA) as a unique collaborative industry organization founded on a ‘one for all’ approach. When Radicle Science was launched in 2021, we immediately recognized the way UNPA fostered innovation and deeply cared about the future of consumer wellness.  The way technology can enhance the unique contributions of humans with a vision for change is a key part of our vision. As our founders Pelin Wood Thorogood & Dr. Jeff Chen MD,MBA sought like-minded collaborators, Loren became an immediate sounding board and important partner in change. And when we started our Radicle Trailblazer series to shine a spotlight on individuals whose stories of resilience and a commitment to innovating our industry, the first name on the list was Loren. As Loren prepares for his retirement and the sunsetting of UNPA, we can reflect on his final Trailblazer takeaway: “Freedom is not free, and health freedom is especially expensive and must be defended, day in and day out. I salute all those who came before us who have done that, and I urge all friends and colleagues in this industry that we love to stand ready to defend our views, our health freedoms and rights of expression.
