Our Rebels Yann Pleindoux and Maarten van der Vlies have just delivered a three-day training on project finance for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) as part of the Shiraka programme. The programme is funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken) and implemented by the Port of Rotterdam.   Rebel was invited to design and deliver a training focused on project finance in the context of Egypt's green industrialisation ambitions. Over three days, we explored the financing of projects such as green hydrogen, green fuels and renewable electricity, as well as the enabling infrastructure needed to make these developments possible, including water desalination, port infrastructure and other critical assets in economic zones.   It was a pleasure to exchange knowledge and discuss the opportunities and challenges of financing the next generation of sustainable industrial and port developments. We were also pleased to be joined by Erik van der Heijden from Port of Rotterdam, whose contributions added valuable practical insights to the discussions.   Many thanks to the participants from the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) for their active engagement, and to our partners in the Shiraka programme for making this collaboration possible. We're excited to welcome Salma Afida to the Rebel team. 🙌 Salma joins our infrastructure and energy transition work across Southeast Asia. Over the past 3.5 years she has worked in advisory across the project lifecycle. From feasibility and financial structuring. To supporting governments, state-owned enterprises, and development banks across the region.   Trained first as a civil engineer, Salma has built her career on a single question: not only how infrastructure gets built, but how it gets financed, structured, and delivered. That engineer's instinct, paired with a finance foundation, is what she brings to the commercial side of the work, and what drew her to Rebel. She is also pursuing a Master's in Sustainable and Green Finance at NUS Business School.   Salma brings curiosity, an engineer's eye, and a real drive to learn. We're glad to have her building alongside Phway P and Jeroen Kok as Rebel grows its presence in Asia Pacific.   Welcome, Salma. Looking forward to what we'll build together!

𝗢𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮 𝗥𝗲𝗯𝗲𝗹, 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗮 𝗥𝗲𝗯𝗲𝗹. On 11 June, we welcomed former and current Rebels aboard Vessel 11 in Rotterdam for the very first Rebel alumni event. The location couldn't have been more fitting: moored in the Wijnhaven, just a stone's throw from the Rebel office, where many Rebels began their journey. It was an afternoon and evening filled with shared memories, inspiring conversations and new connections. We kicked off with a welcome by Mira Groot, followed by a conversation between Bart Budding, Rebel veteran Hidde Siemonsma and the audience. Inspired by Hidde's essay, the discussion centred on three questions: What do you take with you from Rebel? How do perspectives change outside Rebel? And what can Rebel learn from those experiences? The result was an open and engaging dialogue that brought together insights from both past and present. The conversations continued over drinks, where there was plenty of time to reconnect with familiar faces, meet new people and exchange ideas. Thanks to our creative Rebel Matchmakers, old connections were renewed while new collaborations and friendships began to take shape. A big thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this first edition such a success. This event was intentionally organised as a small-scale pilot. We know there are many more former Rebels out there, and we look forward to welcoming even more alumni to future editions. 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀’ 𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 A major milestone for the Dutch energy transition: financial close has been achieved for Zonnepark Westermeerdijk, a 148 MWp solar project in the Noordoostpolder and one of the largest solar developments in the Netherlands. We are proud to have supported Novar and Westermeerweg Zon Holding as a financial advisor. After several years of involvement in the project, it was a pleasure to lead the financing process and help bring this transaction to a successful close in June 2026.   For Rebel, this transaction is another important step in the continued development of the Noordoostpolder as a leading renewable energy hub. Following our work there on the initial financing and recent refinancing of NOP Agrowind and the addition of a utility-scale BESS in 2025, it is exciting to see yet another project move to realization. Together, the wind, solar, and battery assets demonstrate how location and infrastructure can be utilized efficiently while accelerating the energy transition.   Congratulations to Novar, Westermeerweg Zon Holding, ING and all other parties involved on this important milestone.
