Hello, Tahoe Truckee! Recology is excited to share we have signed an agreement intending to purchase Tahoe Truckee Sierra Disposal (TTSD), a trusted provider serving customers in the Town of Truckee and Placer, Nevada, and El Dorado Counties. We expect the acquisition to be completed in the coming months. To TTSD customers and communities, it’s business as usual. Same exceptional service, rates, and collection schedule. We look forward to welcoming our new customers and employees to Recology and continuing the strong tradition of exceptional service and community commitment that TTSD has built over generations.

This year, Recology installed AI-enabled robotics in King County, WA to help increase recovery, reduce contamination, and capture more value from every load. Using visual recognition and AI the robots help further sort plastic by type, recover #2 plastics (milk jugs and shampoo bottles), remove contaminations (like plastic film), and double-check for other recoverable materials. This technology works alongside our employee-owners, strengthening our ability to recovery valuable resources and keep more material in use.

We achieved our 2028 renewable or alternative fuel target three years ahead of schedule! This progress reflects the impact of innovation, infrastructure, and the dedication of our employee-owners, and we’re not stopping there. We’re also on track to achieve our remaining 2028 goals: powering our facilities with 100% renewable or carbon-free electricity and using 75% of collected landfill gas to generate renewable energy. Happy #PlasticFreeJuly! Reducing single-use plastic starts with small, everyday choices—and recycling right helps keep valuable materials in use. In 2025, with the support from our customers and communities, we recovered more than16.2 million tons of plastic for recycling! You can help make sure recyclable plastics are recovered by sorting correctly: recycle rigid plastic bottles, tubs, and jugs, and keep flimsy plastics like bags, wrappers, and film out of the recycling bin unless your local program accepts them.

We felt so much pride celebrating with San Francisco Pride this past weekend! It was ecstatic to see the community celebrate joy, inclusion, and the power of showing up for one another with our employee-owners. We’re wrapping up Waste and Recycling Worker’s Week by highlighting Jesus “Chuy” Orozco Ocaranza from Recology Eel River. With 21 years at Recology, Chuy has become the go-to expert on the floor—someone his team can always count on to step in, step up, and get the job done. He plays a vital role in operations by managing the baler, loading export and domestic shipments, and keeping materials moving efficiently with a loader. “I never thought I would be working her for this long—I just liked it,” said Chuy. “I love working with the equipment and being part of such a great team. Thank you, Chuy, for your hard work, dedication, and 21 years of service!

Megan Kamna’s strong work ethic and passion for helping others are just a couple of the reasons we’re excited to spotlight her during Waste and Recycling Workers Week. As a Customer Service Specialist III at Recology Western Oregon, Megan is known for her problem-solving skills, collaborative spirit, and ability to connect with her customers. Whether she’s assisting others, collaborating with her coworkers, or participating in local cleanup events, Megan enjoys making a meaningful impact in her community. “I love working at Recology because of the people. Not just my coworkers, but our customers too,” said Megan. “We make working in garbage fun!” Thank you, Megan, for the positive impact you make every day!
