Can last night’s food scraps help farms conserve water and grow healthier crops? At Trellis Group Impact 2026, Climate Hive spoke with Fredrick Ghai from Recology about turning everyday waste into valuable resources through composting and recycling. When organic waste is sent to landfills, it generates methane and removes valuable nutrients from the agricultural system. Recology collects food scraps and processes them into nutrient-rich compost that can improve soil health, support water retention and benefit local farms and vineyards. Frederick also explains how materials such as aluminum cans and glass bottles can be recovered and turned into new products, demonstrating what a circular economy looks like in practice.
