Local participants came to a workshop in Colombia to talk about impact measurements of regenerative and agroecological practices. They left having defined what regeneration means for an entire territory. In March, the first gathering of the Valle del Cauca Regenerative Hub brought together more than 60 people in Valle del Cauca: farmers, soil scientists, the regional Secretary of universities, and the private sector. The task was to start agreeing how to measure the impact of regenerative and agroecological practices across the territory's farms. The Regen10 Outcomes Framework was the starting point. Not a checklist to adopt, but a structure to think with. Participants started with the biophysical, soil, water, biodiversity, but the 12 dimensions pulled the conversation outward into economics, governance, and community. They added what is significant for the territory that a global reference can't capture on its own, and left with preliminary indicators across six dimensions, and farms volunteered as pilot sites. This is what the Framework is for. It doesn't tell a territory what regeneration should mean. It holds the full breadth in view while local knowledge fills in the detail. Los participantes comenzaron por lo biofísico, suelo, agua, biodiversidad, pero las 12 dimensiones llevaron la conversación más allá, hacia la economía, la gobernanza y la comunidad. Sumaron lo que es significativo para el territorio y que una referencia global no puede captar por sí sola, y salieron con indicadores preliminares en seis dimensiones, además de fincas que se postularon como sitios piloto. A sharp piece from Sara Farley, grounded in her recent time in the field demonstrating biodiversity treated as infrastructure, not decoration, and farming that is both economically viable and ecologically restorative.   The line we'd draw out: regenerative agriculture's diversity isn't the problem, the absence of shared outcomes is. As capital, policy attention, and farmer interest accelerate, fragmentation over what regenerative is trying to achieve risks confusion and a loss of trust.   This is exactly why Regen10 developed the Outcomes Framework, what Sara describes as "regenerative agriculture's closest potential equivalent to a Rosetta stone": a globally co-developed reference for what regenerative agriculture should deliver, across ecological, social, economic, and governance dimensions, at farm and landscape levels. It offers a shared destination without prescribing a single path, because regeneration in Indonesia will look different from regeneration in Italy.   As Sara puts it, different actors play different roles in moving the field from idea to execution. “Regenerative agriculture happens in systems, not farms alone,” is the message we brought to London and São Paulo last week 🌿   Joining London Climate Action Week, we saw countries home in on food security strategy development in an increasingly unpredictable climate, while non-state actors called for deeper partnership and less fragmentation to ensure cohesive and equitable processes of change.    In São Paulo, we heard the same call for collaboration across the entire value chain, blending actionable science, local knowledge, and innovation to accelerate a transition while participating virtually in the Regenerative Agriculture Forum with Global Landscapes Forum (GLF).    Regenerative agriculture as tool to address the climate crisis was at the heart of many discussions, but divergent definitions and understanding were creating barriers to alignment.    Presenting the Regen10 Outcomes Framework was an opportunity to highlight the immense potential of regenerative agriculture focused on shared outcomes, not shared practices.     Farms and landscapes in the UK and Brazil are hugely diverse in soil types, crops, and cultures. A single model cannot achieve a regenerative transition, but shared outcomes based in locally appropriate contexts can guide the way.     To achieve these outcomes, actors across the entire system need to collaborate, and we heard clearly from London to São Paulo that farmers cannot carry the burden of transition alone. Data shows that while many producers are already driving soil health and climate resilience practices on the ground, nearly 80% still operate without specialized credit or market incentives. To bridge this gap, the #BR360Initiative is in the field this week in Minas Gerais. In close partnership with Consórcio Cerrado das Águas (CCA), we are hosting an in-person workshop with local coffee producers. This deployment moves beyond remote consultations to directly capture the real-world operational constraints, infrastructure needs, and financial and social realities of the producers who anchor the Cerrado landscape. Lovely to see these reflections from Mary Purdy, MS, RDN Eco-Dietitian/Nutrition and Sustainability Expert following the Regenerative Agriculture Forum with Global Landscapes Forum (GLF). The lines that stayed with her are the ones we keep coming back to as well: that regenerative agriculture is a reorientation of how we manage landscapes and soils, and that if the systems around farmers don't provide better insurance, durable purchasing, and pathways for value to flow back upstream, we're only enabling part of the change. That's exactly why the Regen10 Outcomes Framework names what farmers need from the wider system as outcomes in their own right, not afterthoughts. In many regenerative agriculture conversations, farmers are the subject, the people things are measured on, designed for, or done to. The Regen10 Outcomes Framework starts somewhere else: farmers are the primary decision-makers for their own land. This is written into the Framework as an outcome, not a value added around it. At farm level, regenerative agriculture includes farmers and other land stewards holding agency over the decisions that shape their land, rather than carrying out practices designed elsewhere. It changes what regenerative agriculture asks of everyone else. If farmers are the decision-makers, the systems around them, supply chains, finance, standards, policy, have to enable that agency rather than override it. The Framework names many of these as landscape-level outcomes: secure tenure, fair markets, accessible finance, and meaningful participation and representation in decisions. Regenerative agriculture designed without farmer agency doesn't hold. A farmer following practices they didn't shape, on land they don't securely control, has little reason or ability to sustain them over time. 🌿 What does regenerative agriculture look like at the community level? 🌿   For the first time, there is a holistic, shared answer. 🎯The Regen10 Outcomes Framework is the first framework for regenerative agriculture that puts landscapes and communities – together with farms –  at the center of the transition process. Thriving farms depend upon thriving systems. Watersheds. Ecosystems. Communities. Markets. Tenure. You cannot transform food systems without strengthening the social-ecological systems around them. ❓Now the question is: How do landscapes, communities, companies, investors, and governments put this into practice? For landscape initiatives, this Framework can help: ✅ Build a shared vision across diverse stakeholders and sectors in a place ✅ Design programs with the full system in mind, including identifying gaps and priorities ✅ Navigate tradeoffs and optimize synergies more transparently ✅ Make the case for investments in place-based regenerative transitions 🌱Most importantly, it reinforces a critical idea: regenerative agriculture is not the responsibility of farmers alone. Regenerative agriculture is a whole-system opportunity. No single sector can define it alone, yet a shared direction is critical. The Regen10 Outcomes Framework was built across the system. More than 460 organizations and individuals shaped it over more than two years—businesses, farmers and farmer organizations, civil society, conservation organizations, and policymakers—brought together through a multi-stakeholder partnership rather than a single industry or interest. Farmers weren't consulted at the end. Their realities and priorities anchored the outcomes from the start. Building it took time, because multi-stakeholder agreement does. The Framework reflects a negotiated, deliberated position across very different actors, not the view of any one of them. That breadth is what gives it standing. It describes what regenerative agriculture should deliver, across ecological, social, economic, and governance dimensions, as a shared reference that sector-specific tools and frameworks can each relate to. The hard problems in agrifood systems sit across sectors, and so does the work of solving them. A reference that holds across all of them is what makes coordinated progress possible.
