𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐀𝐊𝐏𝐂 𝐈𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐊𝐧𝐞𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐟 What happens when a healthcare organization combines innovative treatment with structured #realworlddata collection? At Arthritis Knee Pain Centers (AKPC), the answer is better visibility into #patientoutcomes — and ultimately, better care. As a leader in non-surgical joint care, AKPC has already helped 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝟕𝟎,𝟎𝟎𝟎 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 nationwide pursue lasting relief from #kneepain through advanced treatment approaches, including Genicular Artery Embolization (#GAE). While published #clinicalresearch has demonstrated strong outcomes for GAE, with reported clinical success rates of up to 86% and significant improvements in KOOS Quality of Life scores, AKPC is going beyond published studies by building its own Real-World Evidence (RWE) framework. Through a dedicated clinical data ecosystem, AKPC captures key patient and procedural metrics at the point of care, including: ✔️ Treatment variables – primary and secondary embolic agents used during procedures ✔️ Patient-reported outcomes – baseline VAS and KOOS scores across symptoms, pain, daily living activities, and quality of life ✔️ Clinical assessment data – knee flexion, extension, and Kellgren-Lawrence grading The value of this approach extends far beyond data collection. By establishing a robust baseline today, AKPC is creating the foundation to track long-term patient outcomes, visualize recovery trajectories, measure treatment effectiveness, and continuously optimize care delivery. This is what modern healthcare looks like: combining clinical innovation with actionable data to improve outcomes, demonstrate quality, and support #evidencebased growth. Check out the global KOOS Quality of Life efficacy trend chart below. Interested in learning how specialty practices can operationalize and monetize real-world data while improving patient care? The Journal of Orthopaedic Experience & Innovation and The Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation are pleased to announce this publication in #JOEI of an #OREF-sponsored initiative that allows physicians to contribute to real-world evidence-based research. MOTIV™ and the Next Frontier of Orthopaedic Evidence Generation: A New Model for Physician-Led Clinical Research John J. Mercuri, MD, MA, Andrew Wickline, MD Read the article in JOEI: https://lnkd.in/gqsKUrKb From the article: MOTIV™ – Musculoskeletal Outcomes and Tracking Intelligence Vault – is an initiative is designed to help orthopaedic physicians participate more directly in real-world evidence generation across all practice settings. The surgeon contributors define the clinically relevant questions and supply the ground-truth observations from their own care. MOTIV™ connects the initiative to the broader mission of advancing orthopaedic research. This article was developed through a collaborative initiative between the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation (OREF) and RegenMed to advance physician-led, real-world evidence generation in musculoskeletal care.

What if the next breakthrough in orthopedics isn't an implant, a robot, or a biologic - but a better way to generate evidence? We're excited to share the publication of our latest article in the Journal of Orthopaedic Experience & Innovation (JOEI): "𝐌𝐎𝐓𝐈𝐕™ 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐍𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐎𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜 𝐄𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧." The article highlights what we believe is one of the next major opportunities in orthopedic innovation — not another device or procedure, but a better way to capture, structure, and learn from real-world clinical outcomes. Despite the vast amount of data generated through patient care, much of it remains difficult to transform into actionable evidence that advances the field and improves outcomes. That challenge inspired the creation of 𝐌𝐎𝐓𝐈𝐕™ (Musculoskeletal Outcomes and Tracking Intelligence Vault), a collaboration between the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation (OREF) and RegenMed. Rather than treating physicians simply as data contributors, #MOTIV empowers surgeons to help define the questions, generate the evidence, interpret the findings, and apply the results to #patientcare. The goal is straightforward but ambitious: build a physician-led #realworldevidence ecosystem that reflects how #orthopedic care is delivered across community hospitals, private practices, ambulatory surgery centers, and academic institutions. Our first MOTIV™ Circle focuses on Total Knee Arthroplasty (#TKA). Early participation has brought together 15+ orthopedic surgeons and 225+ longitudinal patient cases, with exceptionally high physician and patient survey completion rates. While these are early feasibility results, they demonstrate the potential of physician-led #realworldevidence networks to answer important questions around recovery, pain management, opioid exposure, range of motion, patient-reported outcomes, and practice variation. But the bigger story isn't #kneereplacement. It's the opportunity to build a new layer within orthopedic research — one that complements traditional studies while enabling faster, more practical, and more inclusive evidence generation. Patients don't experience "average" #orthopedics; they experience a specific surgeon, procedure, care pathway, and recovery journey. Our evidence should reflect that reality. We're grateful to the surgeons, patients, researchers, and partners helping bring this vision to life, and we're honored to share this work with the orthopedic community through #JOEI. https://lnkd.in/ewzTmBqM

𝐑𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥-𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐄𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐈 Healthcare AI is only as trustworthy as the data behind it. Yet many AI models are still trained and validated using stale and unverifiable "evidentiary" conclusions generated before the AI era. Perhaps worse, they are trained on data which has already passed through one or more AI layers, with the attendant risk of compounding hallucinations. This creates three growing challenges for healthcare organizations: ▪️ 𝐂𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐛𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐝? AI outcomes depend on the quality and traceability of the underlying data. ▪️ 𝐂𝐚𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐛𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐝? Privacy regulations and data governance requirements are increasing scrutiny of centralized data models. ▪️ 𝐂𝐚𝐧 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐜𝐲 𝐛𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝? Advances in analytics are making re-identification risks harder to ignore. Our latest white paper, 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐝 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞, explores why many organizations are reconsidering centralized evidence models — and what a decentralized alternative could look like. The Circles Platform enables analysis where the data already resides, helping health systems: ✅ Maintain control of their data ✅ Strengthen privacy and compliance ✅ Support more trustworthy AI and research As healthcare becomes increasingly AI-driven, organizations will need evidence infrastructures that are trusted, auditable, and privacy-preserving by design. Because trustworthy AI starts with trustworthy evidence. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 — 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐜. Recently, a provider partner at HyperFlex Medical saw that connection in action. Through the #RegenMedCircles Platform, a clinician reviewed real-time patient-reported outcomes (PROMs) and noticed responses that warranted a closer look. Because the data was available immediately, the physician reached out to the patient and ensured appropriate follow-up — without waiting for the next scheduled visit. This story highlights something bigger: when clinicians have real-time visibility into patient experiences, they can act quickly, validate concerns, and stay connected when it matters most. The care team is able to identify issues and intervene weeks sooner. That’s the power of continuous #patientengagement. By giving clinicians direct access to real-time patient-reported data, we’re not simply collecting data — we're helping create an additional layer of support outside the clinic. Stories like this highlight why patient-reported outcomes matter. When providers can see patient experiences as they happen, they are better positioned to stay connected, identify potential issues earlier, make timely and informed decisions, and deliver more #personalizedcare. 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝, 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬. How is your organization using patient-reported data to stay connected with patients between visits? We'd love to hear your perspective in the comments.
