We said we wanted more JRC green on our job sites. The crew may have taken that a little too literally. That bright green surface at our Catholic Funeral & Cemetery Services project in Southfield, Michigan, is actually a vapor barrier, installed before the rebar and concrete to help protect the future slab from moisture below. It is one of those critical construction details that eventually disappears but plays an important role in the finished building. It’s official: we have broken ground on our Kroger Marketplace project in Commerce Township. This 104,000-square-foot, ground-up grocery store marks the first of two projects Jarbou Ronnisch Construction is building with Kroger, and we are excited to see the first one officially underway. A nine-story building is coming to a surface parking lot in Corktown, and the project just took a major step forward. Detroit City Council has approved the incentives supporting 1728 Michigan Avenue, a new $31.4 million mixed-use development expected to break ground this September. Jarbou Ronnisch Construction is proud to serve as Construction Manager for the project, which will bring 60 residential units, including mixed-income housing, and ground-floor retail space to Michigan Avenue in Detroit’s historic Corktown neighborhood. Led by Four Angels Investments LLC and designed by Kraemer Design Group, 1728 Michigan Avenue will transform a currently underused site into new housing, commercial activity, and construction jobs. What happens when a construction project invests beyond its property lines? As the historic Higginbotham School is transformed into the 100-unit Higginbotham Art Residences, developer Rod Hardamon and URGE Imprint are also helping longtime residents remain part of the neighborhood’s future. Through partnerships with local philanthropic and financial organizations, approximately $700,000 has been raised to complete critical repairs for nearby homeowners, including roofing, gutters and new windows. More than 20 homes have already received improvements, with dozens more expected to benefit.
