Meet Christian 💙 Diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at just 2 years old, Christian faced an aggressive fight ahead — but his family learned about a new clinical trial incorporating immunotherapy, and took a leap of faith. Thanks to that decision, Christian gets to do what every 3-year-old deserves: be home with his family, laugh and just play — instead of being in the hospital. 💡 Did you know the PSA test was discovered right here at Roswell Park? In the 1970s, our own Dr. T. Ming Chu discovered the prostate-specific antigen (PSA), leading to the development of the PSA test for early detection of prostate cancer. The FDA approved it for clinical use in 1986 — and it's now used worldwide. The result? When used in men who meet the screening criteria, the PSA test reduces deaths from prostate cancer by 25-32%. 💙 Another life-saving discovery born from Roswell Park research. Have you talked to your doctor about PSA screening? https://lnkd.in/g-puqw9N

What if the future of autoimmune disease treatment isn't lifelong immune suppression—but an immune reset? Dr. Alicia Lieberman explores how advances in CAR T-cell therapy are creating new possibilities for patients with autoimmune diseases such as lupus, scleroderma and multiple sclerosis. By building on breakthroughs in cancer immunotherapy, researchers are working toward treatments that could one day provide durable, long-term remission using a patient's own immune cells. As Roswell Park continues to advance the field of cell therapy, we're proud to share Dr. Lieberman's perspective on this exciting new frontier in medicine and its potential to transform care for patients with autoimmune diseases.

Last week, our ROCKstars welcomed potential new members at a summer soirée information session to learn how community voices are shaping cancer research. Guests explored the ROCKstars (Research Oncology Community Knowledge) program and completed a survey to help researchers better understand public perceptions of breast cancer, ensuring future research better reflects community needs. ROCKstars empowers cancer survivors, patients, caregivers and community members to partner with researchers, share their experiences, advocate for cancer research and help make studies more patient-centered and inclusive.
