⚽ One match. Two nations. Dozens of families. One unforgettable afternoon at the Times Square Family Residence as residents came together to watch the FIFA World Cup 2026 final! Thanks to Program Director Candace McCoy and her team, the lobby was transformed into a multicultural, family-friendly celebration where clients came together to cheer, connect, and watch every exciting moment of the match. 🍕 Families enjoyed pizza and light refreshments, while children received soccer-themed goody bags. Guests who wore their favorite team jerseys also had the chance to win exciting raffle prizes. For families living in shelter, moments like these mean so much more than watching sports on TV. We were deeply honored to have participated in a special ceremony celebrating the Declaration of Independence's 250th anniversary at the Kings County Criminal Court in Brooklyn. Our Color Guard - comprised of military veteran clients and staff - presented the U.S., military services, and POW/MIA flags in the courtroom. Two Veterans Program clients also shared what it meant to them to have defended our nation's founding principles. We thank Supervising Judge Hon. We are grateful for our ongoing partnership with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation, which regularly invites us to participate in community Health Fairs across the five boroughs - most recently during #MensHealthMonth. Thanks to a grant from the Anthem BCBS Foundation, we offer Recovery Through Nutrition workshops at our two PARC (Peer Alliance Recovery Centers) in Queens and the Bronx. The workshops demonstrate how nutritious food supports both physical and mental health, and play an important role in sustaining long-term recovery from addiction. A successful recovery from substance use is about treatment and building a healthy, stable future. In our June Mosaic newsletter, we're sharing how Samaritan Daytop Village continues to improve opportunities for recovery and wellness across New York, including a new $3.5 million NYS Office of Addiction Services and Supports grant that will expand employment services for up to 600 people in treatment and recovery each year. This grant adds to our existing workforce programs, including those for peers and addiction counselors. When mothers heal, families heal – and what better way to celebrate that than through self-care. To mark the completion of a 16-week Food As Medicine nutrition education program led by Dr. Elizabeth M. Madison, PhD, RDN, CDN, the women of the Young Mothers Program (YMP) enjoyed a Spa and Wellness Day, taking time to relax, restore, and focus on themselves. As part of their recovery journeys, the day was also an opportunity to explore healthy self-care practices they can carry forward and share with their families. The team from THE SPA EXPECTATIONS CORPORATION pampered the moms with facials and hand and back massages, and each participant received a custom hand scrub, with even more self-care products from Bath & Body Works on the way next week. The celebration also included a delicious lunch from Carmine's NYC Family Style Italian, complete with the restaurant's famous cannolis. To round out the day, Dr. Madison hosted a fun Nutrition Trivia game that put participants' new knowledge to the test. Winners received healthy snack prizes and gained even more tools to support their wellness journeys.
