#AI in the front, #bitcoin in the back — the “mullet mining” pitch promises a way to combine two power-hungry computing businesses at the same site. At the Energy Investors Forum (EIF), industry executives explained why the reality is more complicated: ⚡ Bitcoin mining can generate interim revenue while an AI campus is developed. 🏗️ Most mining sites are not AI-ready. Beyond land and a substation, AI requires far more expensive buildings, cooling, fiber, redundancy and backup systems. 💰 Panelists estimated that a bitcoin mine may cost $200,000 to $300,000 per megawatt to build, compared with more than $10 million per megawatt for AI infrastructure before chips. 🔥 The strongest hybrid model may be at sites with on-site generation, where bitcoin absorbs surplus electricity and shuts down when AI needs the power. 🥇 At locations capable of supporting a long-term AI tenant, however, bitcoin will usually become the junior load — or leave altogether. The panel’s key takeaway: Mullet mining can work, but only in a much narrower set of circumstances than the slogan suggests. You will install, maintain, and troubleshoot electrical systems that power large-scale mining infrastructure while mentoring Electrical Apprentices on site.   What you'll do: • Lead installation and termination of panels, switchgear, PDUs, transformers, and UPS systems • Troubleshoot electrical faults to minimize downtime and maximize facility uptime • Direct and mentor Electrical Apprentices; lead daily JHAs and safety briefings • Coordinate with the Site Operations Manager to meet installation milestones   Bring: Valid journeyman license (Texas preferred), 4+ years in industrial/commercial/data center electrical work, and demonstrated apprentice leadership.
