When most people think about compliance failures, they think about policies, training, or regulations. I'm interested in something that happens before all of those. We often investigate what decision was made; I'm more interested in why a good person made it in the first place. Stress, fatigue, and cognitive overload don't excuse poor decisions, but they do influence the quality of the judgment behind them. I'm honored to be speaking at the 2026 Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics (SCCE) Compliance & Ethics Institute this September in Orlando, where we'll explore how human performance influences ethical risk and why protecting decision-making may be one of the most overlooked components of compliance.
