  • Here's a stat that doesn't get talked about enough: over the past several decades, U.S. university enrollment in electrical engineering has fallen dramatically relative to computer science — while demand for custom electronics has only accelerated. Nearly half of U.S. engineers are now 50 or older, and industry data suggests something like 3 senior engineers are retiring for every 1-2 new graduates entering the field. At the same time, demand is climbing fast: AI hardware, EVs, robotics, smart infrastructure — all of it needs electrical engineers, and the pipeline isn't keeping pace. This isn't a "just hire more people" problem. It's structural, and it's been building for years. The uncomfortable but honest conclusion: if the talent pool can't grow fast enough, the only lever left is making each engineer more productive — better tooling, less time lost to repetitive design work, faster iteration. That's not a knock on the profession. It's what keeps it sustainable as demand keeps outpacing supply. Curious how other teams are thinking about this — are you feeling the gap in hiring, or is it showing up more as bottlenecks on existing teams? #ElectricalEngineering #EngineeringTalent #Hardware #AI #FutureOfWork

PCB design is having a real moment in 2026. Across the industry, generative AI is showing up at nearly every stage of the workflow — schematic drafting, layout, design-rule checks, inspection, even supply-chain-aware component sourcing. What used to be manual, repetitive work is quietly becoming AI-assisted, and it's happening fast. At SnapMagic, we've been building toward this for a while. Our AI copilot works inside the tools engineers already use, auto-completing circuits, streamlining BOM decisions, and pulling in real-time supply chain data so designs don't stall on parts availability. The direction is clear: AI isn't replacing electrical engineers. It's clearing away the repetitive work — bypass capacitors, part swaps during shortages, BOM cleanup — so engineers can spend more time on the design decisions that actually need a human. We're growing the team behind that vision, especially on the go-to-market and customer side.
