Department of Homeland Security’s final rule ending “duration of status” (D/S) for F-1, J-1, and I nonimmigrants takes effect September 15, 2026. These employees will now receive a set expiration date and must apply to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) for extensions.
