Southwest Steel and SME Steel are proud to have contributed to the restoration of an important piece of history at the Historic Wendover Airfield The reconstructed World War II bomb-loading pit offers visitors a closer look at the equipment and engineering used during a pivotal moment in American history. Wendover Airfield served as the training base for the 509th Composite Group, best known for the Enola Gay and this restoration helps tell that story in a meaningful, tangible way. Using modern scanning technology along with historical research, SME Steel and Southwest Steel helped recreate the nuclear bomb-loading cradle to match the original pit as closely as possible. It’s a unique project that reflects both the precision of today’s steel fabrication and the importance of preserving the past. We’re honored to be part of work that combines craftsmanship, history, and purpose, and grateful for the opportunity to support the ongoing restoration of one of the most historically significant airfields of the World War II era. https://lnkd.in/dfkvRkHv #enolagay #WWII #wendoverairfield #USAAC
