What happens after an #AIforGood startup wins a global innovation competition? For MamaMate, winning the 2025 AI for Good Innovation Factory helped turn an emerging maternal-health technology into a growing health infrastructure solution serving communities in South Africa and Tanzania. Developed by Ele-Vate AI Africa, MamaMate uses offline, solar-powered technology to deliver maternal-health guidance in local languages, including in communities where internet access, electricity and healthcare resources remain limited. Its progress offers several lessons for the wider AI-for-good ecosystem: • Design for real-world constraints. AI solutions can reach underserved populations only when they account for connectivity, language, literacy and infrastructure barriers. • Recognition can unlock implementation. MamaMate reports that its AI for Good awards increased credibility, opened conversations with governments and health organizations, and supported production of 600 additional units. • Early outcomes matter. The platform reports supporting 1,073 mothers, increasing antenatal-care adherence by 70%, improving early identification of high-risk pregnancies by 80% and reducing referral times by 95%. • Scale requires institutional integration. Planned clinical trials with Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences could help build evidence for adoption within Tanzania’s public healthcare system. MamaMate’s story shows that AI’s greatest value lies in whether technology can reach people, earn trust and strengthen the systems on which lives depend. https://lnkd.in/emwmNGK5

We are thrilled to celebrate the publication of "Positive Sum: How Zero-Sum Thinking Broke Capitalism – and How We Can Fix It", a groundbreaking new book written by Director of Mission Investments, Roy Swan. In Positive Sum, Roy draws on decades of experience in finance and leading Ford’s Mission Investments team to challenge the outdated myth that doing good and doing well are mutually exclusive. He lays out a powerful, actionable roadmap for mission-driven capitalism—proving that when we invest in historically overlooked communities, we don't just build equity; we unlock massive, untapped economic value for everyone. #PatrioticCapitalism #PositiveSum

What should education accomplish when AI can produce an answer in seconds? At the #AIforGood Global Summit 2026, Arizona State University President Michael Crow and musician, entrepreneur and educator will.i.am (in a session moderated by The Economist's Kenneth Cukier) argued that the real opportunity is not to automate learning. It is to redesign education around human potential. Key takeaways: • AI should augment teachers, not replace them. Used well, it can provide more personalized guidance, expand access and help educators support learners at a scale previously available only through private tutoring. • The question matters more than the answer. As AI makes information easier to retrieve, education must place greater value on curiosity, judgment, critical thinking and the ability to frame meaningful problems. • Cheating is partly a design problem. Michael Crow challenged educators to reconsider assessments that AI can complete easily. The goal should be to test understanding, application and original thinking. • Students should solve real problems now. will.i.am described an approach in which students build AI agents around their interests and use them to address practical challenges, rather than waiting until graduation to contribute. • Human creativity still carries distinct value. Education must prepare young people to work with machines while preserving empathy, imagination, collaboration and purpose. The first AI generation does not need fewer human skills. It needs stronger ones. Watch the full conversation for additional insights: https://lnkd.in/eFh6yGc6
