  • In workers’ comp, better care for injured employees isn’t just the right thing to do. It’s often the more cost-effective path. The problem is that a practical approach to balancing quality care and cost control is uncommon. That’s where Summit’s breakthrough Facility Assessment Tool comes in. It scores medical facilities using data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, factoring in clinical outcomes, infection rates, operational efficiency, and patient experience. The result: clearer insight into where injured employees are most likely to receive the best care and recover faster. Summit's medical claims team, in collaboration with our in-house nurses and doctors, use these insights to guide treatment decisions. We let doctors know when they’re referring an injured employee to a facility with a poor rating and recommend facilities with better ratings. “Facilities account for 41% of our healthcare spend,” says Medical Director Dr. Bob Martin. “We’ve found cost doesn’t necessarily correlate with quality. By comparing outcomes, we can help direct patients—through their physicians—to facilities where they’ll get better care, often at a lower overall cost.” 💡 See more about Summit’s in-house medical and claims management expertise in our blog at summitholdings.com

Safer workplaces don’t happen by accident. They happen when employers have a workers' comp provider that helps prevent injuries before they occur. Fewer injuries can mean fewer claims, less disruption, and a healthier workforce. And that’s exactly what Summit’s collaboration with Toufayan Bakery looks like. When Toufayan’s HR manager identified a safety need at its Plant City, Florida, manufacturing facility, she turned to Summit for guidance. Loss prevention consultant Robert Hollins M.S., CSP, ARM responded with customized on-site ergonomics training for approximately 60 employees. Tailored to a food manufacturing environment, the training covered practical techniques to reduce injury risk, from proper lifting and posture to simple exercises employees can incorporate into their daily routines. The impact was immediate. “Employees really appreciate your coaching, especially the practical tips on how to incorporate these exercises throughout the day and the emphasis on why they matter for overall well-being. Your contribution plays an important role in helping us promote a safer, healthier work environment.” — Toufayan Bakery Our proactive approach is especially important in manufacturing, where strains and sprains are among the most common and costly workplace injuries. For Summit-managed insurers, strains alone account for nearly 20% of manufacturing claims. “By engaging directly with employees, Summit helps prevent claims and a lot of pain and suffering,” says Robert. #KnowThePeopleWhoKnowWorkersComp

Bridgefield Casualty Insurance Company wrote its first policy in 1996. What began as a single carrier has grown into a family of workers’ compensation insurance carriers, each rated A+ (Superior) by AM Best Company.  From evaluating straightforward operations to higher risk exposures that require deep analysis, the Bridgefields take a thoughtful, experienced approach to underwriting. And behind every Bridgefield policy is Summit, the team that delivers the underwriting, claims, safety, audit, and technology services that support the carriers’ broad risk appetite and consistent results. Summit’s team brings practical experience across industries and risk types, along with elite service designed for customer responsiveness and accountability. Claims professionals focus on compassionate care and positive medical outcomes. Safety specialists work directly with employers to address workplace exposures before injuries occur. Technology and reporting tools support efficiency for agents and employers alike. Thanks to our independent agents and policyholders, the Bridgefield family of carriers enters its fourth decade with a clear focus on what has always mattered: providing reliable workers’ compensation solutions across a broad range of risks and industries. And helping  agents and policyholders achieve peace of mind. #KnowThePeopleWhoKnowWorkersComp

Summit’s expansion in Pennsylvania is underway. And we’re looking for one experienced business developer to help build what comes next. Summit is a superregional workers’ comp provider with a track record of producing results, a growing footprint, and long-standing relationships with thousands of independent agents.
