January is National Mentoring Month! We’re proud to highlight our Job Alike Mentors, who support new student services professionals, including school social workers, counselors, psychologists, as well as speech and language pathologists, physical therapists, and occupational therapists, during their first three years in the profession. While balancing their full-time roles, they mentor 1 to 3 beginning educators, offering guidance, tools, and support that foster growth, confidence, and success. Thank you to our mentors for investing in our educators and strengthening services for students every day.

Futures depend on us, and we are proud to support students’ futures in the trades. Sun Prairie West High School students have been hard at work this school year in their home construction course, building a home for Habitat for Humanity. In the course, students earn credit and gain experience reading technical drawings, developing knowledge of safety skills and tools, and learning job-site procedures. This gives them a competitive advantage when entering the trades after graduation. The program also supports our community, as it is built in collaboration with Habitat for Humanity, which will provide the finished home to a family in need.

In honor of National Law Enforcement Day, we want to take a moment to thank the Sun Prairie Police Department for all that they do to keep our community safe. Also, we want to give a big shout out to Officer Sessums and Officer Davis, who are in our schools building relationships with our students every day in their role as Police School Liaison officers.

As the new year starts, so do goals for well-being and health. The Sun Prairie Area School District (SPASD) is nationally recognized for its employee health and wellness initiatives by the WELCOA (Wellness Council of America). SPASD has maintained the prestigious Platinum Award from WELCOA since 2021 and was re-awarded Platinum status in 2024, extending this designation through 2027. With comprehensive and holistic approaches, like vaccination clinics, specialty care, screening, consultation, and integrated wellness coaching, SPASD has established itself as a national leader in employee wellness, delivering transformative care that redefines what is possible in workplace wellbeing. A huge thank you to our District Wellness Coordinator, Karyn Richmond, for her dedication and care for our teachers and staff. In this new year, we are ready to help and support your goals!

Last week, Sun Prairie High School ACCEL Academies attended Ignite Impact, where grants that were by written by students in partnership with local nonprofits were awarded by the SUN PRAIRIE EDUCATION FOUNDATION INC. Students will now execute their project plans. Ignite Impact is an excellent opportunity for students to learn business skills and for the community to come together.
