Sunshine Division provides immediate food relief to Portland metro families and individuals in need.
About us
Since 1923, the Sunshine Division has been providing food and clothing relief to Portland families and individuals in need. Whether due to the loss of a job, domestic crime, illness, or victims of fire or disaster, the Sunshine Division has built a 102-year legacy of mobilizing quickly and efficiently to assist distressed Portlanders. We offer food assistance six days a week at our N. Thompson location, four days a week at our SE Stark location, and 24 hour food assistance through our partnership with the Portland Police Bureau, who store Sunshine Division food boxes at each police precinct to be dispatched at any time. We also provide no-cost, bulk food and food boxes to 20+ local hunger relief non-profits serving Clark, Clackamas, Washington, and Multnomah counties. In addition to food relief, we offer new and gently-used clothing in our on-site clothing room and fund new school clothes for low income children through our Izzy’s Kid’s program which pairs a Portland police officer with a child for a one-on-one shopping experience.

For many of our guests, pets are family. Many tell us they will feed their pets before feeding themselves. That's why we're SO grateful to Sujata for donating 15,000 pounds of pet food to be shared between Sunshine Division and The Pixie Project. Thanks to the expanded warehouse at our new headquarters, we were able to receive and store a donation of this size so it can help more families care for the pets they love. Thank you, Sujata, for your amazing generosity! 💛

A guest at our Free Food Market in SE Portland shared: "I'm almost 72 and I still have to work. I take social security, which is minimal, and then I work. For the cost of food right now, Sunshine Division is extremely helpful because I just can't afford food." Many of our guests are doing everything they can to pay the bills and put food on the table, but it's often still not enough. Food donations and food drives have slowed during the summer months, and we're asking for the public's help to keep our shelves full for the neighbors who depend on us to fill the gaps. If you're able, please consider signing up to host a food drive or making a donation at sunshinedivision.org so we can continue to be a safety net for families that can't afford food.

We Need Drink Donations! 🧃With the heat this week, we are going through beverages quickly in our Free Food Markets. We are down to our last couple pallets! Got any unopened juice, water, seltzer or soft drinks? You can drop them off at 2121 NW Front Ave on Thursday, July 23 or Friday, July 24 between 9:00am and 3:00pm. Thank you The Standard for awarding a $25,000 grant to Sunshine Division to help us finish our new headquarters in Northwest Portland! 💙💙
The Standard Charitable Foundation has awarded grants totaling $100,000 to three nonprofit organizations in the first half of 2026: Dougy Center received $50,000 for the final payment of a $100,000 grant payable over two years to support its capital campaign for a new permanent home on the west side of the Portland metro area. Junior Achievement of Dallas, Inc. received $25,000 to support the Junior Achievement Discovery Center at Greenwood Hills, Texas. Sunshine Division received $25,000 to support the necessary improvements and renovations for their newly purchased facility in Northwest Portland, Oregon. “Setting a stable foundation is key for a successful life — ensuring that kids have access to nutritious food and quality financial literacy education helps strengthen that foundation,” said Dan McMillan, president and CEO of The Standard and president of The Standard Charitable Foundation. “We’re proud to support these organizations and all they do to improve our communities.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/ep_gxEct
