  • GE Appliances, a Haier company is rethinking flexibility on the plant floor, and it's paying off for their workforce. A recent NPR article spotlights their Lafayette, Georgia plant, where production workers use an app to build their own schedules by signing up for 4-hour shifts and selecting the work they want to do. The result? A flexible workforce of more than 900 employees working alongside the plant's full-time team. This approach reflects what we've found in our research: flexibility supports work-life balance, reinforces company values and helps build a stronger workplace culture. We're excited to welcome GE Appliances as sponsor for the MI's Workforce Summit this October in Indianapolis, IN. They'll join us on the mainstage where they'll share insights on building a positive workplace culture to attract and retain talent. • Caterpillar Inc. just announced a Texas-wide workforce commitment as part of its five-year Building the Future Workforce Initiative, with an initial investment of up to $5 million to prepare workers for advanced manufacturing careers. • Saint-Gobain North America President & CEO Mark Rayfield has a message: American manufacturing's problem is perception, not a lack of talent. In a new Fortune op-ed, Rayfield points out that with 3.8 million manufacturing jobs to fill over the next 10 years, closing this perception gap is critical. It means manufacturers must take charge in showing the next generation that modern manufacturing is clean, high tech and full of career paths that don't require a four-year degree. That's the idea behind Manufacturing Day. Every October, manufacturers nationwide open their facilities to show students, parents and educators what a manufacturing career really is. We're grateful to have Saint-Gobain North America as our Platinum Event Sponsor for #MFGDay26, helping us bring Rayfield's message to life on shop floors across the country.
