About us

Mission: Operate and maintain a reliable, user-fee supported transportation system. Vision: Deliver safe, convenient, and high-quality service across a vital corridor that supports New York’s economy—modernizing to meet evolving customer and partner needs responsibly. About Us: The Governor Thomas E. Dewey Thruway, built in the 1950s, is one of the nation’s longest toll roads and a pioneer in modern highway design. Spanning 570 miles with 815 bridges and 27 service areas, it connects New York’s major cities, rural communities, and tourist destinations. One-third of Thruway traffic comes from out of state, underscoring its regional importance. The Thruway includes I-87, I-90, I-95, I-287, I-190, and more. In 2020, it transitioned to a fully cashless tolling system, enhancing efficiency and convenience for millions of travelers.

Updates

  • 🚧 Work is now underway on a $54.4 million project to repair structural steel and complete seismic upgrades on the South Grand Island Bridges. Governor Kathy Hochul announced the project today, which is funded largely through a federal grant that the Thruway Authority received. This investment will help preserve the safety, reliability and long-term resilience of a critical transportation link in Western New York. Learn more about the project at https://bit.ly/4wUlMIx.

  • #News A record 800,000 guests visited the Thruway’s 27 Service Areas during the July 4th Independence Day travel week - and more than 360,000 guest transactions! The milestone highlights the success of the privately funded $450 million modernization project that transformed the Thruway travel experience. Through a public-private partnership, all 27 Service Areas were rebuilt or significantly renovated, with NO toll or taxpayer dollars used for construction. Thank you to all travelers who stopped in and to the Applegreen staff who helped make the holiday week a success. Read more at https://lnkd.in/gFH-55jt.

  • 🚧 Smooth pavement downloading... ⬇️ Crews are making progress on a $15.8 million pavement improvement project on I-90 between exits 24 (Albany - Montreal - I-90 East - I-87 North) and 25 (Schenectady - I-890 - NY Routes 7 & 146), one of the Capital Region's busiest commuter corridors. The project includes full and partial-depth repairs to the highway's original subbase and a complete repaving of the roadway, scheduled to be finished this fall. This work is part of more than $1 billion in active construction projects ongoing across the Thruway's 570-mile system. Thank you for your patience as we reinvest toll dollars to deliver a safer, more modern and more reliable highway for everyone. 🚗🛣️
