About us

Truemed is redefining how Americans use their healthcare dollars. We partner with leading health and wellness brands — including Peloton, Garmin, Sleep Number, and many more — to make their products eligible for HSA/FSA spending. The result: a simple, affordable way for consumers to invest in tools that actually improve their health. Most people think HSA/FSA funds can only be used for prescriptions or copays. But under IRS guidelines, thousands of evidence-based products qualify when used for a medical purpose. Truemed bridges the gap by handling medical evaluations, generating compliant documentation, and integrating directly into merchant checkout flows so consumers can instantly use tax-free dollars on products designed to help them move, sleep, recover, and perform better. Whether it’s connected fitness, adaptive shoes, recovery tech, wearables, or sleep optimization, Truemed is building the infrastructure that connects proactive health products to the $150B+ in pre-tax healthcare spending. Our mission is simple: empower people to spend healthcare dollars on things that actually make them healthier.

  • You sit for 8 hours a day. Your back knows it. Your HSA/FSA balance doesn't have to ignore it. Vari has spent a decade building what most people now consider the gold standard in ergonomic workspace design. Electric standing desks. Sit-stand converters. Modular setups built for how people actually work today. When a licensed healthcare provider recommends an adjustable standing desk to address a diagnosed musculoskeletal condition, it may qualify as an HSA/FSA-eligible medical expense. That changes the math entirely. A full ergonomic workspace setup at $1,200? That drops to around $840 an average tax savings of ~30% depending on the your individual tax rate. This isn't a productivity hack. It's a medical expense framework that most people never think to use. Here's how it works through Truemed: - Complete a clinical intake form at checkout - An independent licensed practitioner reviews your health information - If eligible, a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) is issued - HSA/FSA funds are applied to your purchase No reimbursement paperwork. No separate claims process. The cost of the practitioner review is built into the purchase price. Qualifying conditions may include chronic lower back pain, cervical or lumbar disc issues, repetitive strain injury, postural dysfunction with documented musculoskeletal impact, or recovery from spinal surgery. The average American sits 10+ hours per day. For those with diagnosed conditions, the workspace itself becomes part of the treatment plan. Truemed partners with Vari because the clinical case is straightforward, the price point fits within typical HSA/FSA annual balances, and the brand has already earned trust with hundreds of thousands of customers. Your healthcare dollars were designed for exactly this. • "Is this just another FSA loophole?" It is a consistent initial question if you haven't looked into Lifestyle Interventions and where they fit with FSAs and HSAs. Here's the thing. The category isn't the workaround. IRC Section 213(d) has defined medical necessity for decades. What's changed is awareness of it. Before you answer that question, make sure you can answer these three: 1️⃣ Who determines medical necessity, and what are their qualifications? 2️⃣ What documentation stands behind each approval? 3️⃣ How is this different from a stipend or general wellness reimbursement? If you can answer all three, the loophole question tends to answer itself. View the article to see a full breakdown. Truemed is for qualified customers. Eligibility is not guaranteed.

  • Your HSA/FSA may cover the water filter sitting in your cart right now. Most people think their health spending account stops at prescriptions. Water filtration almost never makes the list. But here's what changes the math: Under IRS Section 213(d), a medical expense can include anything that treats, mitigates, or prevents a diagnosed medical condition. For qualified customers, a water filtration system may clear that bar when an independent licensed practitioner documents the connection through a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN). Here's what the savings look like: A $400 countertop reverse osmosis system, purchased with HSA/FSA funds, could effectively cost around $280 after approximately 30% in average tax savings depending on the individual tax rate. Same products. Smarter payment method. Truemed partners with brands that meet the standard: Rorra, Clearly Filtered, AquaTru, BOROUX | Water Filters, and Cloud Water Filters. These aren't unverified filters with bold claims. They carry recognized third-party certifications and serve customers ranging from renters with countertop units to homeowners investing in whole-home systems. The process through Truemed: - Complete a clinical intake form at checkout - An independent licensed practitioner reviews your health information - If eligible, an LMN is issued documenting medical necessity - HSA/FSA funds are applied to your purchase. The cost of the review is included in the purchase price. No separate fees. The future of healthcare spending is not just reactive. It is removing the barriers between people and the preventive infrastructure they already need. • Can you take money out of your HSA whenever you want? Technically yes, but if you do it wrong, you’ll owe income tax plus a 20% penalty, and most people don’t fully understand the rules that keep their withdrawals tax-free. We break down exactly how HSA withdrawals work. An HSA withdrawal is simply taking money out of your Health Savings Account to pay for healthcare, and the key rule is that spending it on a qualified medical expense makes the withdrawal 100% tax-free. We cover the three rules to remember (qualified expenses only, keep your receipts, and no time limit on reimbursing yourself), what happens if you use HSA money for non-medical expenses before and after age 65, and how, for qualified customers, an HSA can even cover lifestyle health interventions like gym memberships, supplements, or red light therapy when there’s a real medical need documented with a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN). Truemed helps qualified customers put pre-tax HSA and FSA dollars toward eligible medical expenses, saving an average of 30%.* What you’ll learn: - What an HSA withdrawal is and why qualified expenses stay 100% tax-free - The three rules to remember about HSA withdrawals - Which expenses qualify (doctor visits, prescriptions, dental, vision, medical equipment, and more) - How a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) can cover lifestyle health interventions - Why keeping your receipts matters for an IRS audit - How the “no time limit” reimbursement rule lets your HSA grow tax-free - What the 20% penalty is and how HSA withdrawals change after age 65 #hsafsa #HSA #healthcare #health #benefits

"After we launched, we saw a sharp spike in customers asking if they could use their HSA or FSA. That told us everything. People wanted to invest in home fitness, they just needed a financially smart way to do it." — Ivis Salas, Marketing Director, Major Fitness For DTC brands selling premium home gym equipment, checkout abandonment is expensive. Customers research for weeks, but at checkout, price becomes the final hurdle. Major Fitness Inc integrated Truemed's HSA/FSA solution in May 2025 — and turned a payment option into a conversion strategy for qualified buyers. They added Truemed to their Shopify checkout and made HSA/FSA eligibility impossible to miss. They built dedicated landing pages for qualified buyers, highlighted the payment option across the shopping journey, and curated a dedicated collection of HSA/FSA-eligible products so qualified shoppers could find them quickly. The signal was immediate. Customer inquiries about HSA/FSA spiked after launch, confirming latent demand among qualified buyers who wanted premium equipment but needed a financially accessible path to commit. Beyond their own site, Truemed's Marketplace put Major Fitness in front of qualified shoppers actively searching for HSA/FSA-eligible equipment — opening a steady acquisition channel for qualified buyers paid media couldn't reach. The results: 18% of HSA/FSA sales driven by Truemed's Marketplace, 8.5% share of total orders paid via HSA/FSA, 12% reduction in checkout abandonment. What started as a payment integration became a growth channel. See the comments for the full Major Fitness x Truemed case study

  • Your HSA/FSA may cover Nike Strength equipment. Most people don't know that. They leave thousands of dollars sitting untouched. Meanwhile, their clinician is recommending strength training for a diagnosed condition. And they're paying for equipment out of pocket. With after-tax dollars. That math doesn't add up. Nike Strength builds premium equipment for people who take training seriously. Dumbbells, barbells, racks, benches. Commercial-grade quality designed for home use. Now, for qualified customers, select Nike Strength equipment may be HSA/FSA-eligible through Truemed. Here's how it works: - A licensed, independent practitioner reviews your clinical intake form - If you have a qualifying condition, they issue a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) You purchase with pre-tax dollars. Truemed handles the rest. The conditions this applies to aren't obscure. They're common: Chronic back pain, Osteoporosis, Post-surgical rehabilitation, Sarcopenia, Joint degeneration, Metabolic conditions like type 2 diabetes. When equipment is medically necessary, the savings are real. Nike built its reputation on performance and durability. Truemed built its reputation on compliance and access. Together, it means qualified customers can invest healthcare dollars in equipment their practitioner actually recommends, from a brand they already trust. No gray areas. No workarounds. IRS-aligned, documentation-first. The default question should be simple: "Does this brand work with Truemed?" Nike Strength does. • LSAs and medically necessary lifestyle interventions often get lumped together. But, they're not the same thing. An LSA is employer funded. Employer defined categories. No IRS eligibility standard. Funds are generally taxable when spent. A medically necessary lifestyle intervention is different. It is governed through IRS regulations and provides tax-advantaged use through HSA/FSA funds. It requires: ✅ A diagnosed condition ✅ Review by a licensed practitioner ✅ Documentation linking the intervention to that condition (IRC 213(d)) Often the same categories on the surface. Fitness, nutrition, sleep, mental health. Different standards underneath. The risk comes from blending the two. Implying LSA spending gets HSA/FSA style tax treatment. Or that LSA eligible categories automatically count as medically necessary. They don't. Treating them as interchangeable creates exposure for employers and TPAs. Used correctly, each has its place: For TPAs and brokers: keep the two separated in documentation and communication. Don't let LSA language imply medical eligibility. The label on an account doesn't decide its treatment. The standard behind it does. ➡️ See full breakdown in this week's Hidden Value Report. Truemed is for qualified customers. Eligibility is not guaranteed. Individual licensed practitioners determine medical necessity for each participant.
