  • Turning Conservation Science Into Recovery Success ✨ Some of the most impactful conservation projects are about more than protecting a species—they're about building the knowledge needed to sustain it for generations to come. Verdantas is proud to support Mosaic's Florida Scrub-Jay Mitigation Program, a long-running effort focused on the recovery of one of Florida's most iconic and imperiled bird species. Through ecological consulting, scientific research, long-term monitoring, and data analysis, our team helps transform field observations into actionable insights that guide conservation decisions. What makes this work especially meaningful is its impact beyond a single species. The program is advancing our understanding of how genetic diversity affects population recovery while exploring new recovery strategies and demonstrating how science-based management can help reduce extinction risk and support long-term recovery. Insights gained through this work may help inform wildlife conservation efforts far beyond the Florida Scrub-Jay. Achieving that impact takes collaboration, and the success of this program reflects the dedication of numerous partners working toward a shared conservation goal.    Conservation success is ultimately powered by people.   • Helping fish move upstream safely isn’t simple, especially at hydropower facilities where traditional fish passage solutions may not always be feasible. 🐟 At a hydropower site in the Northeast, Verdantas is evaluating the Fishheart hydraulic fishway, an alternative approach designed to attract, guide, and transport fish upstream. The team is using acoustic telemetry to study how American shad interact with the system, from attraction and movement to successful passage. This type of field data helps project teams better understand how innovative fish passage technologies perform under real operating conditions. With that insight, teams can reduce uncertainty, refine designs, and make more informed decisions at sites where conventional solutions may not be the best fit. 📊 This work is one example of how field data can shape more practical outcomes for both infrastructure and ecosystems.  #FishPassage #Hydropower #WaterResources #EnvironmentalEngineering #Innovation

  • As data center development continues to expand, site lighting plays an important role in balancing safety, security, operational needs, and community considerations. Poorly designed lighting can create challenges ranging from glare and light trespass to compliance concerns and unnecessary energy use. Verdantas helps clients evaluate existing conditions and develop lighting solutions that support safe, secure, and efficient operations while meeting applicable codes and project requirements.  Through field assessments, illumination measurements, and photometric modeling, our team analyzes lighting performance, uniformity, glare control, and potential impacts on surrounding properties.   • Verdantas welcomed representatives from AECOM, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), and virtual attendees from the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) to our Flow Labs facility for a physical model study of the proposed S-636 Seepage Pump Station serving the Everglades Agricultural Area. During the session, our team shared current findings from the ongoing study, presented design modifications identified to support compliance with the Hydraulic Institute ANSI/HI 9.8-2024 standard for rotodynamic pumps, and demonstrated the hydraulic performance of the proposed pump station through live testing under a range of operating conditions. More than a demonstration, the session gave project partners the opportunity to review findings, discuss design refinements, and observe the impact of those modifications firsthand. The study's findings will help inform the final design of infrastructure intended to enhance water management capabilities in the Everglades Agricultural Area and support reliable performance during critical operating conditions. #Verdantas #FlowLabs #HydraulicEngineering #PhysicalModeling #FloodProtection

  • Connecting Geospatial Innovation with Real-World Impact 🗺️    This week, members of the Verdantas GIS and Digital Technologies teams are attending the Esri User Conference, the world's largest gathering of GIS professionals, where industry leaders come together to explore the latest advancements in geospatial technology, data analytics, AI, and digital transformation.  Geospatial technology is playing an increasingly important role in helping organizations understand assets, manage risk, and make more informed decisions. At Verdantas, we continue to expand our GIS and Digital Technologies capabilities to help clients transform complex geospatial, engineering, environmental, and operational data into actionable insights that support better project outcomes.  Our inclusion in the Esri Partner Network reflects Verdantas' continued focus on helping clients make better decisions, improve efficiency, and achieve stronger project outcomes through the effective application of geospatial technology.   • Over the past several months, the Water Forum has advanced plans for the next phase of salmon and steelhead habitat improvements along the Lower American River, supported by a $333,000 grant from the California Wildlife Conservation Board. The funding is helping advance up to 10 habitat sites toward design, with a focus on creating side channels and shaded, slow-water areas where juvenile fish can grow before heading to the ocean.   • When heavy rain hits a community, the impacts aren’t abstract—they show up as flooded streets, disrupted travel, and neighborhoods left managing the consequences long after the storm has passed. 🌧️ That reality shaped our work with Yuba County Public Works, where our team supported a comprehensive effort to understand and reduce flood risk across East Linda, West Linda, and Olivehurst, communities already facing increasing pressure from more intense storm events, aging and fragmented drainage systems, and soil conditions that limit infiltration and accelerate runoff.     Building on earlier vulnerability analysis, our work focused on moving from identifying risk to supporting real, long‑term solutions. Using advanced hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, we evaluated how the existing system performs across a range of storm events — pinpointing where infrastructure gaps create the greatest disruptions to roadways, access, and daily life.    Based on this analysis, we helped develop a long-range, prioritized flood mitigation strategy focused on:  - Reducing flood exposure for neighborhoods and critical transportation corridors  - Strategic drainage and detention improvements  - Coordinated upgrades that improve roadway safety alongside stormwater performance  - Clear cost estimates to prioritize projects, guide phased implementation, and support pursuit of grant and funding opportunities This work reflects how technical analysis, local system knowledge, and community input come together to support resilient infrastructure planning—not just for the next storm, but for the decades ahead. #ClimateAdaptation #FloodResilience #InfrastructurePlanning #StormwaterManagement #Verdantas
