  • What a day at the 3rd Annual Bags for the Barn Cornhole Tournament! On July 25, we packed The Barn at The Frio Grill for a good cause. Thirty teams competed, every seat was filled, and the energy never let up. Best of all, this year's tournament supported the JoyRide Center and its equine-assisted therapeutic services that make a real difference in our community. This event is powered by our #VLSCares committee, and it truly shows what happens when a team comes together. A huge thank you to the VLS crew from our Rail and Waste divisions who showed up and showed out: Reginald Holmes Jr – VLS Rail Jennifer Pearce – VLS Rail & VLS Cares Committee Member Nick Garcia – VLS Rail & VLS Cares Committee Member Veronique Baker – VLS Rail & VLS Cares Committee Member Melissa Heath – VLS Rail & VLS Cares Director Theresa Cochran – VLS Waste & VLS Cares Treasurer Adrian Garza – VLS Rail Giving back is part of who we are at VLS. From our 25-acre flagship railcar cleaning and industrial services plant at 17020 Premium Drive in Hockley, TX, our team stays committed to safety, sustainability, and the neighbors we serve. To every player, sponsor, and supporter who joined us: thank you. You made this year's tournament our best yet. #VLSCares #BagsForTheBarn #CommunityFirst #Sustainability #JoyRideCenter

  • Managing flammable and combustible liquids gets a lot simpler once you know one thing: their NFPA class. That single classification tells you almost everything you need to handle a material safely. Get it right, and you have a clear framework for three critical decisions: - The right storage containers and cabinets for each material - The proper personal protective equipment for your team - The emergency spill protocols that limit risk and protect the environment Get it wrong, and you're exposed to fines, failed inspections, and preventable fires. The good news? This doesn't have to be complicated. Our latest blog breaks down the NFPA classes in plain language—no jargon, no overwhelm—so your team can classify materials with confidence and build safer, more sustainable operations. What's the toughest part of managing flammable liquids at your facility? • Safe handling of dangerous liquids starts with one question: how volatile is it? The answer comes down to two measurements—flash point and boiling point. Together, they tell you how easily a liquid releases vapor and how quickly that vapor can ignite. The NFPA built its classification system around these two variables. Each class signals the hazards a liquid can pose under normal working conditions—and gives you a clear framework to act on. That framework shapes the decisions that keep your facility safe and compliant: - How to store each liquid - What ventilation you need to prevent vapor buildup - How to respond fast when a spill happens Get the classification right, and you protect your team, your compliance record, and the communities we all serve. Our latest blog breaks the NFPA classes down in plain language—no jargon, no overwhelm. Read it at the link below. #NFPALiquidClassification #NFPA #FlammableLiquids #CombustibleLiquids https://lnkd.in/ecxsuFJj

  • In Quail Creek, summer brings two things you can count on: the heat and the Quail Creek Volunteer Fire Department's Bar-Be-Que Cook-off. We'll admit it — we look forward to the cook-off a whole lot more than the heat. As a proud member of the Quail Creek community, our VLS Victoria Facility was honored to support this year's event. We contributed a donation and kept the contestants and volunteers cool with plenty of ice and water throughout the weekend. This year's lineup did not disappoint: 25 teams competing for the top BBQ spot Food vendors, trinkets, and a live band A Friday night fireworks show Walking the grounds, we heard the same thing from cook teams again and again: the hosts take great care of participants, the grounds are beautifully kept, and everyone is genuinely welcoming. A huge shout-out to our team members who gave their time and energy — Phillip Shelton, Alexis Rodriguez, Angelica Perez, Joseph Shelton, and Tristin Cabrera. From judging to helping cook teams and supporting the VFD, you made a real difference. Thank you to the Quail Creek Volunteer Fire Department for letting us be part of something special. We already can't wait for next year. #QuailCreek #CommunityPartners #VLSEnvironmentalSolutions #BBQCookoff
