A material isn't "qualified." It's qualified for a specific application. That's one of the key takeaways from Volta Foundation's latest Committee Insights Paper on Materials Qualification Pathways. Too often, promising battery materials get stuck between R&D and commercial adoption. Why? Because proving a material works isn't the same as proving it will succeed. The paper argues for a shift from a material-push approach to a risk-reduction and parallel-development model—giving cell manufacturers and OEMs the confidence they need to evaluate new materials earlier without compromising rigorous qualification.

Do we have the workforce to support the battery industry? 📥 https://lnkd.in/e7jBb2Pq Volta Foundation's latest Committee Insights Paper estimates that battery manufacturing will require approximately 500,000 direct manufacturing workers by 2030, growing to 725,000 by 2035. Based on an analysis of battery manufacturing facilities worldwide, the report establishes a steady-state benchmark of 130 direct workers per GWh—providing one of the industry's first data-driven baselines for workforce planning. As gigafactories continue to expand around the world, understanding the workforce needed to support this growth has never been more important.
