There comes a point in every career transition where learning has to give way to building. Over the past few months, I have intentionally invested in growing as a Product Manager; learning the craft, applying product thinking, and, most importantly, building. Today, I am very excited to share RentSync, my first end-to-end Product Management case study. RentSync explores how technology can simplify rent and utility management by addressing common challenges such as missed payments, manual tracking, and fragmented communication between tenants and landlords/property managers. One early assumption didn't survive contact with the research. I started out treating landlords/property managers and tenants as equal users. But discovery kept pointing to something else: landlords/property managers are the ones paying for a product like this, and their real pain isn't just whether payments get tracked; it is how. Chasing tenants for transaction screenshots, reconciling M-PESA messages by hand, and resolving "I paid, you said I didn't" disputes was eating their time every month. That reframe changed the product: RentSync became a landlord-first platform, using tenant-facing tools like automated payment confirmation to remove that manual chase, not a dual-sided app treating both users the same. Working on this project reinforced that product management is not about building every feature users ask for. It is about understanding customer problems, making thoughtful trade-offs, prioritizing what creates the most value, and measuring success in meaningful ways. This case study walks through my entire product thinking process from problem discovery and user research to defining an MVP, prioritizing features, and identifying success metrics. More importantly, it reflects how I approach solving problems: with curiosity, structure, and a user-first mindset. I would genuinely appreciate your feedback.
