Our founder, Brigham Young, had the vision to establish a one-room pioneer savings bank in 1873 during a national financial panic. Nearly a century later, Roy Simmons rose from humble beginnings to become one of the Intermountain West’s most successful banking pioneers. He and his two business partners acquired Zions First National Bank from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1960, ushering in an era of rapid growth. Roy served as president of the bank from 1964 to 1981 and then as chair until 1998. Today we honor the contributions of generations past and the pioneering spirit that carries us forward.

Thanks to our Jackson Hole staff for volunteering to help with conservation efforts in Grand Teton National Park. On Saturday, July 18, employees removed 442 pounds of invasive houndstongue plant from Mormon Row, a historic homesteading district in the park. The non-native plant produces burs that attach to visitors’ clothing and rapidly spread to other protected areas. We appreciate the Grand Teton National Park Foundation for facilitating this project and for all they do to protect and care for this spectacular area.

We were honored to join Governor Spencer Cox and representatives from the Utah Department of Veterans and Military Affairs, Utah Food Industry Association, and Associated Food Stores to load 300 care packages of Utah-made products onto a military vehicle. These gifts are headed to the families of deployed service members just in time for Pioneer Day. Early in New Plymouth’s history, the city was sustained by the flowing waters of the Payette River. Water wheels were the engine of early progress, converting raw water currents into the mechanical energy needed to power foundational industrial tasks like grinding grain and sawing wood. To honor this rich agricultural heritage and the ingenuity of the city's founders, we’re honored to support the restoration of a historic water wheel donated by the Finley family. On July 8, our New Plymouth Branch Manager, Carla Johanek, presented a donation to City Councilor Ron Martinez. The water wheel is prominently placed on the city’s Boulevard and horseshoe on the greenbelt.
