Vehicle Controls Engineering Process Tools Engineer
Location: Dearborn, Michigan (Onsite)
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Vehicle Controls Engineering Process Tools Engineer to support the design, development, testing, and maintenance of Ford’s in-house control systems tools focused on automotive software calibration data management. The ideal candidate will have strong embedded software development experience, excellent C programming skills, and hands-on experience working in Linux/Unix environments.
The engineer will collaborate with Vehicle Controls Tools Technical Specialists to enhance software tools, troubleshoot issues, support global users, and deliver reliable solutions for automotive control system applications.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, implement, and test software enhancements for Ford’s vehicle controls engineering tools.
Collaborate with technical specialists to analyze requirements and deliver software changes.
Follow software change management and control processes to ensure quality releases.
Debug and troubleshoot application issues using Linux development tools.
Provide global user support through email, phone, Webex, messaging, and direct interactions.
Manage user accounts, access controls, and application permissions.
Create and maintain technical documentation, user manuals, and training materials.
Support training initiatives for global Ford engineering teams.
Participate in user forums and continuous improvement activities.
Work with automotive calibration data management systems and control software tools.
Required Qualifications
10+ years of experience in embedded software development or automotive control systems.
Strong programming experience in C language with embedded systems background.
Strong understanding of:
Data structures and algorithms
Pointers
Bit manipulation
File handling operations
Hash tables
Recursion
Experience developing and debugging applications in Unix/Linux environments.
Strong Linux system programming knowledge.
Hands-on experience with Linux development tools:
Make / Makefiles
GDB debugging
Vi/Vim editor
Process management using fork()
Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills.
Experience with embedded control system software development and calibration.
Knowledge of automotive calibration file formats:
H32
A2L
Experience with Postgres database:
Database connectivity
Table creation and management
Familiarity with Exceed TurboX is preferred.
Experience with software configuration management and issue tracking tools:
Jira
Version control systems
Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools:
Word
Excel
PowerPoint
Preferred Skills
Automotive ECU software development experience.
Knowledge of vehicle controls and calibration workflows.
