About the Role
We are seeking an experienced litigation attorney to join a collaborative in-house legal team where you can continue practicing law at a high level without the pressure of billable hours. This position offers the opportunity to take ownership of a litigation caseload and handle matters from initial case assessment through trial and post-trial proceedings. Responsibilities
Essential job functions include a comprehensive review of new and transfer file assignments with initial evaluation letter to claims and service of initial discovery.
Summarizing discovery responses and medical records.
Taking and defending depositions of parties, lay witnesses, and expert witnesses and completion of deposition summaries.
Law and motion: legal research; preparation of motions, oppositions and replies to motion; court appearances at law and motion.
Trial preparation, trial and posttrial motions.
Other miscellaneous tasks as may be necessary to adequately defend the insured including assignments from managing and senior managing attorneys.
Qualifications
Education
J.D. from an ABA-accredited or state-accredited law school and admission to the California State Bar.
Experience
Seeking 2+ years of insurance defense or related experience.
Preferred: Experience as the primary attorney defending personal injury lawsuits; insurance defense personal injury trials to verdict or equivalent litigation experience.
Required Skills
Knowledge of insurance, torts, evidence, civil procedure, and trial practice.
Effective communication, persuasion and analytical skills.
Must be able to work independently with minimum direction and good organizational skills necessary to manage a caseload.
Compensation and Benefits
Expected Salary Range from $120,000 - $200,000 / Yr. The expected base salary for this position will vary depending on a number of factors, including relevant experience, skills and location.
Flexibility to work from anywhere in California (may be open to CA licensed attorneys in neighboring states).
