The Structural Estimator will work within the Estimating department and will report directly to the Structural Concrete Estimating Manager. They will work closely with the Estimating department. The Structural Concrete Estimator will analyze project design and construction documents for all structural related scopes to determine the needs of various projects and to prepare project cost estimates. This position will be fully in-office located at either our Portland, Oregon office or Seattle, Washington office.
Salary Range : $90,000- $130,000 DOE + Incentives
Essential Responsibilities
Provide leadership to all functions within Hoffman Structures to support, develop and enhance overall Safety, Quality and Profitability
Coordinates and aligns to share in and promote Hoffman Structures unified vision and team goals
Assists in coordination of delegating estimating workload
Updates Estimating Calendar with estimate timelines
Ensures team members are working off proper and updated documents
Completes quantity take offs and back checks work as needed
Flags constructability items for review with pre-construction team members as necessary
Coordinates necessary meetings with team members to ensure completeness and submission timelines are met
Prepares work to be estimated by compiling required drawings, specifications, and related documents (Bluebeam: tools, sessions, smartsheets, etc.)
Reviews project plans & specifications and coordinates with project team to confirm completeness of scope to be estimated
Provides necessary reports to fulfill project requirements (Beck/Destini)
Solicit subcontractor/supplier information and pricing
Encourages, tracks, and manages M/WESB participation
Maintains detailed list of supplier contacts and most recent pricing
Reviews estimates and progress with team members prior to presenting final bid to H.S.I executive team
Presents estimates to H.S.I executive team prior to final submission to H.C.C. that include $/CY, $/MH
Support and mentorship to new team members
Participates in periodic reviews and visits to project sites
Advocate Leadership, Innovation, Planning, Communication and Accountability to advance the H.S.I Culture
Qualifications
Professional Experience and Education
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Bachelor of Architecture or an equivalent degree or equivalent work experience.
5 years of construction estimating experience.
Education background in materials and methods of construction.
Experience specifically in commercial, healthcare, industrial, water treatment and/or hi-tech type of projects.
Experience in organizing technical data in a neat and accurate method; familiar with CSI specification system for various scopes of work.
Skills in handling several work activities at once while frequently interrupted by phone calls and urgent questions on work in progress.
Training in design and construction document reading, design specifications, survey theory and techniques.
Highly developed visual observation and interpretation skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; must be able to work closely with project owners, architects, engineers, equipment manufacturers, vendors and subcontractors.
Ability to work closely with trade and craft people in a field work situation. Patience, and professionalism are essential to being able to maintain a cooperative attitude through pressure situations.
LEED accreditation preferred, or someone who is willing to become certified in 18-24 months
Proficient in the following programs: Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word and Outlook) and Bluebeam. Experience with project management software such as Prolog, Procore, E-Builder, Microsoft Project and Primavera Project Planner(P6). Experience with design software such as AutoCAD, Revit and Navisworks.
Ability to multitask activities while simultaneously taking calls and providing responses to urgent questions.
Must be able to work closely with owners, architects, engineers, equipment manufacturers, vendors and subcontractors.
Ability to work closely with trade and craft people in a field work situation.
Highly developed visual observation and interpretation skills.
Self-starter, quick learner, team leader, problem solver and ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations.
Flexible work schedule to allow extended periods of overtime or off-shift work to accommodate changing workloads and bid schedule.
Physical And Mental Requirements
Must be able to remain in a stationary position in an office environment more than 50% of the time, with occasional requirements to move about on the job site.
Must be able to access work being done on multiple levels.
Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
The worker is required to have the ability to perform duties such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; reading printed and digital documents.
Must be able to work in proximity to loud equipment 5% of the time. Must be able to wear hearing protection as necessary. Often required to communicate with customers and coworkers in an office setting and, on the phone/digital meetings.
Ability to communicate laws, ordinances, plans, regulations, protocols, directives, and standard operating procedures related to project scope. Constantly required to communicate with customers and coworkers in an office setting.
Most of the work is performed in an office setting, with minimal time spent outdoors in all types of weather conditions and exposure.
