Utility and Maintenance Superintendent

The City of David City is accepting applications for the Utility and Maintenance Superintendent position, which requires certification in Water and Wastewater Systems. The Superintendent manages the safety and maintenance of the water and wastewater systems in place for the City of David City, while implementing record-keeping procedures for routine and emergency testing as required. The Superintendent controls the maintenance needed with the street, parks, swimming pool, RV campgrounds, recreation grounds, city lots, building codes, initiating cleaning, painting, mowing, and any repairs as necessary.
This position requires operating light to moderately heavy and complex construction-type equipment and machinery, such as motor graders, front-end loaders, backhoes, and similar equipment, in excavating, filling, compacting, moving earth, and other materials, including snow removal. The Superintendent oversees the maintenance of the tree dump and various other activities, including servicing equipment, mowing and spraying ditches, and controlling mosquitoes.
This position also requires a close working relationship with the various departments within the City of David City, committees, and entities under the City of David City and the surrounding area. The successful applicant must be able to pass pre-employment and drug screening and have a valid driver’s license. Must be able to obtain a Class B CDL, have or be able to obtain the appropriate Class grades in Water Operator and Wastewater Operator permits.
Wage based on experience; benefit package.
Minimum Qualifications: High school graduate plus two (2) years technical training or the equivalent. Must possess a Grade II or Grade III Water Operators Certification. Must be able to work with the public in solving problems; to work with other city employees; and to direct others in assisting. Management experience is helpful.
